Journal ArticleDOI
Protective effect of pretreatment with verapamil, nifedipine and propranolol on mitochondrial function in the ischemic and reperfused myocardium.
TL;DR: Hearts from the rabbits treated with propranolol, verapamil or nifedipine were protected against ischemia, and ischemIA with reperfusion-induced decline in the ATP-generating and O 2 -utillzing capacity of the mitochondria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hypoxia and calcium
TL;DR: The removal of extracellular calcium, the addition of verapamil, and the measurement of calcium influx indicate that the initial rise in resting tension is not due to an inward movement of calcium from the extracllular phase.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of caffeine activation of single calcium-release channels of sheep cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum.
TL;DR: Channels activated by caffeine at both activating and subactivating calcium concentrations were characteristically modified by ryanodine, Ruthenium Red, ATP and magnesium, implying that the same channel is involved under both conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modulation of single Ca2+-dependent K+-channel activity by protein phosphorylation.
TL;DR: Effects of CS on the activity of individual Ca2+-dependent K+ channels from the nervous system of the land snail Helix measured in isolated membrane patches and in artificial phospholipid bilayers demonstrate that cAMP-dependent protein phosphorylation produces long-lasting changes in theActivity of individual channels, and indicate that the relevant phosphorylated site is closely associated with the channel.
