Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling Tissue and Blood Gas Kinetics in Coastal and Offshore Common Bottlenose Dolphins, Tursiops truncatus.

TL;DR: A dynamic multi-compartment gas exchange model is used to estimate blood and tissue O2, CO2, and N2 from high-resolution dive records of two different common bottlenose dolphin ecotypes inhabiting shallow and deep diving life styles, indicating that cardiac output had to remain elevated during surface intervals for both ecotypes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in dive profiles as an indicator of feeding success in king and Adélie penguins

TL;DR: The validity of using changes in depth profiles from high-resolution time-depth recorders to infer feeding activity in free-ranging penguins is examined, as more accessible proxies of their feeding success.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heart rate and energetics of free-ranging king penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus).

TL;DR: Heart rate (fh) and the energetic costs of specific behaviours of king penguins while ashore and while foraging at sea during their breeding period are determined and it is suggested that the regional hypothermia that has been recorded in this species during diving bouts may be at least a contributing factor to such hypometabolism.
