Electrical Myostimulation (EMS) Improves Glucose Metabolism and Oxygen Uptake in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients—Results from the EMS Study
Frank van Buuren,Dieter Horstkotte,Klaus Peter Mellwig,Andreas Fründ,Marios Vlachojannis,Nicola Bogunovic,Zisis Dimitriadis,Jürgen Vortherms,Reed Humphrey,Josef Niebauer +9 more
TL;DR: EMS can improve glucose metabolism and functional performance in T2DM patients and might help patients to overcome their sedentary lifestyle, and data suggest that EMS might emerge as a novel additional therapeutic mode of exercise training.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electrical myostimulation improves left ventricular function and peak oxygen consumption in patients with chronic heart failure: results from the exEMS study comparing different stimulation strategies.
Frank van Buuren,Klaus Peter Mellwig,Christian Prinz,Britta Körber,Andreas Fründ,Dirk Fritzsche,Lothar Faber,Tanja Kottmann,Nicola Bogunovic,J. B. Dahm,Dieter Horstkotte +10 more
TL;DR: Extended EMS can improve oxygen uptake and EF in CHF, in patients with limited EMS and in control patients without heart failure but extended EMS, oxygen uptake can be improved but EF is unaltered.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The first evidence and expert consensus-based guideline (level S3) on ECLS/ECMO therapy was developed in a structured approach under regulations of the AWMF (Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany) and under use of GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) criteria as discussed by the authors.
