Using genetic variants to evaluate the causal effect of cholesterol lowering on head and neck cancer risk: a Mendelian randomization study
Mark Gormley,James Yarmolinsky,Tom Dudding,Kimberley Burrows,Richard M. Martin,Richard M. Martin,Steven Thomas,Steven Thomas,Jessica Tyrrell,Paul Brennan,Miranda Pring,Stefania Boccia,Andrew F. Olshan,Brenda Diergaarde,Rayjean J. Hung,Rayjean J. Hung,Geoffrey Liu,Geoffrey Liu,Danny Legge,Eloiza H. Tajara,Patrícia Severino,Martin Lacko,Andy R Ness,George Davey Smith,Emma E. Vincent,Rebecca C Richmond +25 more
TL;DR: Limited evidence is found of a causal effect of genetically-proxied LDL-C lowering using HMGCR, NPC1L1, CETP or other circulating lipid traits on either OC or OPC risk, suggesting previous observational results may have been confounded.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluating shared genetic influences on nonsyndromic cleft lip/palate and oropharyngeal neoplasms
Laurence J. Howe,Laurence J. Howe,Laurence J. Howe,Gibran Hemani,Corina Lesseur,Valerie Gaborieau,Kerstin U. Ludwig,Elisabeth Mangold,Paul Brennan,Andy R Ness,Beate St Pourcain,Beate St Pourcain,George Davey Smith,Sarah J Lewis +13 more
TL;DR: Evaluated shared genetic aetiology between nonsyndromic cleft lip/palate and oral cavity/oropharyngeal cancers (OC/OPC) found strong evidence for an association between a nsCL/P polygenic risk scores (PRS) and increased odds of OC/opC, and Mendelian randomization analyses provided evidence that major nscl/P risk variants are unlikely to influence OC/ OPC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systematic review of published trials on the effects on n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids on depressed mood
Journal ArticleDOI
Early life risk factors for obesity in childhood: Authors' reply
TL;DR: Targeting maternal education may be useful in obesity prevention, and Greenhalgh highlights the importance of socioeconomic status, although all social groups have been affected by the obesity epidemic.
