Journal ArticleDOI
Orf Virus Encodes a Novel Secreted Protein Inhibitor of Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor and Interleukin-2
David Deane,Colin McInnes,Ann Percival,Ann R. Wood,Jackie Thomson,Andrea Lear,Janice Gilray,Stephen B. Fleming,Andrew A. Mercer,David M. Haig +9 more
TL;DR: GIF expression by orf virus indicates that GM-CSF and IL-2 are important in host antiviral immunity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Duration of protective immunity and antibody responses in cattle immunised against alcelaphine herpesvirus-1-induced malignant catarrhal fever.
George C. Russell,Julio Benavides,Dawn M. Grant,Helen Todd,David Deane,Ann Percival,Jackie Thomson,Maira Connelly,David M. Haig +8 more
TL;DR: The results presented here show that the attenuated AlHV-1 vaccine in a licensed adjuvant protected cattle from fatal intranasal challenge with pathogenic AlH V-1 at three or six months, and suggests that the magnitude of the initial response may correlate with long-term protection.
Journal ArticleDOI
The emergence of squirrelpox in Ireland.
Colin McInnes,Lesley Coulter,Mark P. Dagleish,David Deane,Janice Gilray,Ann Percival,Kim Willoughby,Michael Scantlebury,Nikki J. Marks,D. Graham,David J. Everest,M. McGoldrick,J. Rochford,F. McKay,Anthony W. Sainsbury +14 more
TL;DR: Serological evidence of the extent of poxvirus infection in the grey squirrels from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, including an apparent increase in the seroprevalence of antibodies against the virus ingrey squirrels over the period of the study is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
A field vaccine trial in Tanzania demonstrates partial protection against malignant catarrhal fever in cattle.
Felix Lankester,Felix Lankester,George C. Russell,Ahmed Lugelo,A. Ndabigaye,Nicholas Mnyambwa,Julius Keyyu,Rudovick Kazwala,Dawn M. Grant,Ann Percival,David Deane,David M. Haig,Sarah Cleaveland +12 more
TL;DR: The first field trial of a vaccine against malignant catarrhal fever was shown to be safe for use in Tanzanian cattle and provided a 56% reduction in transmission of virus to cattle.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conservation and variation of the parapoxvirus GM-CSF-inhibitory factor (GIF) proteins
David Deane,Norihito Ueda,Lyn M. Wise,Ann R. Wood,Ann Percival,C. Jepson,Neil F. Inglis,Stephen B. Fleming,Andrew A. Mercer,Colin McInnes +9 more
TL;DR: An analysis of the biological activity of the two recombinant proteins revealed that, whilst the PCPV GIFprotein bound to both ovine and bovine GM-CSF and IL-2 with very similar binding affinities to the ORFV GIF protein, no GM- CSF- or IL- 2-binding activity was found for the BPSV protein.
