Effect of the myeloperoxidase inhibitor AZD3241 on microglia: a PET study in Parkinson's disease.
Aurelija Jucaite,Per Svenningsson,Juha O. Rinne,Zsolt Cselényi,Katarina Varnäs,Peter Johnström,Nahid Amini,Anna K. Kirjavainen,Semi Helin,Margaret Minkwitz,Alan R. Kugler,Joel A. Posener,Samantha L. Budd,Christer Halldin,Andrea Varrone,Lars Farde +15 more
TL;DR: The reduction of (11)C-PBR28 binding to translocator protein in the brain of patients with Parkinson's disease after treatment with AZD3241 supports the hypothesis that inhibition of myeloperoxidase has an effect on microglia and warrants extended studies on the efficacy of AZD 3241 in neurodegenerative disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Catalytic Decarboxylative Fluorination for the Synthesis of Tri- and Difluoromethyl Arenes
Satoshi Mizuta,I S Stenhagen,Miriam L. O’Duill,Jamie R. Wolstenhulme,Anna K. Kirjavainen,S J Forsback,Matthew Tredwell,Graham Sandford,P R Moore,Mickael Huiban,S K Luthra,Jan Passchier,Olof Solin,Gouverneur +13 more
TL;DR: Treatment of readily available α,α-difluoro- and α-fluoroarylacetic acids with Selectfluor under Ag(I) catalysis led to decarboxylative fluorination, giving access to tri- and difluoromethylarenes applying a late-stage fluorination strategy.
Journal ArticleDOI
The SGLT2 Inhibitor Dapagliflozin Reduces Liver Fat but Does Not Affect Tissue Insulin Sensitivity: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study With 8-Week Treatment in Type 2 Diabetes Patients
Aino Latva-Rasku,Miikka-Juhani Honka,Joel Kullberg,Nina Mononen,Terho Lehtimäki,Juha Saltevo,Anna K. Kirjavainen,Virva Saunavaara,Patricia Iozzo,Lars Johansson,Jan Oscarsson,Jarna C. Hannukainen,Pirjo Nuutila,Pirjo Nuutila +13 more
TL;DR: 8 weeks of treatment with dapagliflozin reduced liver PDFF and the volume of visceral adipose tissue in obese patients with type 2 diabetes and, although glycemic control was improved, no effect on tissue-level insulin sensitivity was observed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiosynthesis and Evaluation of [18F]Selectfluor bis(triflate)†
Harriet Teare,Edward G. Robins,Anna K. Kirjavainen,Sarita Forsback,Graham Sandford,Olof Solin,Sajinder K. Luthra,Véronique Gouverneur +7 more
TL;DR: Positron (b) emission tomography (PET) is a noninvasive molecular imaging technique that allows for the in vivo investigation of physiological processes and electrophilic F-fluorination suffers from well-recognized drawbacks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyperthyroidism increases brown fat metabolism in humans.
Minna Lahesmaa,Janne Orava,Camilla Schalin-Jäntti,Minna Soinio,Jarna C. Hannukainen,Tommi Noponen,Anna K. Kirjavainen,Hidehiro Iida,Nobuyuki Kudomi,Sven Enerbäck,Kirsi A. Virtanen,Pirjo Nuutila +11 more
TL;DR: Thyroid hormones are important regulators of brown adipose tissue (BAT) development and function in humans and increases GU in BAT independently of BAT perfusion, which results in increased skeletal muscle metabolism and lipid oxidation rates.
