Statistical physics has proven to be a fruitful framework to describe phenomena outside the realm of traditional physics. Recent years have witnessed an attempt by physicists to study collective phenomena emerging from the interactions of individuals as elementary units in social structures. A wide list of topics are reviewed ranging from opinion and cultural and language dynamics to crowd behavior, hierarchy formation, human dynamics, and social spreading. The connections between these problems and other, more traditional, topics of statistical physics are highlighted. Comparison of model results with empirical data from social systems are also emphasized.

Statistical physics of social dynamics

We have studied the three quark system in a relativized version of the quark potential model with chromodynamics. With parameters consistent with those of an analogous study of meson spectroscopy we obtain a successful description of the spectrum of baryons. The model naturally explains the apparent absence of spin‐orbit interactions in baryons.

QCD Symmetries in $\eta $- and $\eta '$-Mesic Nuclei

We present a new dispersive formulation of the {gamma}-Z box radiative corrections to weak charges of bound protons and neutrons in atomic parity violation measurements on heavy nuclei such as {sup 133}Cs and {sup 213}Ra. We evaluate for the first time a small but important additional correction arising from Pauli blocking of nucleons in a heavy nucleus. Overall, we find a significant shift in the {gamma}-Z correction to the weak charge of {sup 133}Cs, approximately 4 times larger than the current uncertainty on the value of sin{sup 2}({theta}{sub W}), but with a reduced error compared with earlier estimates.

γZ box corrections to weak charges of heavy nuclei in atomic parity violation.

Angular distributions of cross sections and vector and tensor polarisations for pi d to pi d are calculated at Tlabpi =142, 180 and 256 MeV. The isospin-one dibaryon resonances 1D2, 3F3 and 1G4 are mixed into Faddeev partial waves. Using experimental differential cross sections as constraints, dibaryon signals in the polarisation observables are calculated for a range of possible resonance parameters.
