Journal ArticleDOI

T-cell-expressed proprotein convertase furin is essential for maintenance of peripheral immune tolerance.

TL;DR: The results suggest that inhibiting furin might activate immune responses, but may result in a breakdown in peripheral tolerance, which is due, at least in part, to its non-redundant, essential function in regulating TGF-β1 production.
Journal ArticleDOI

Limited Redundancy of the Proprotein Convertase Furin in Mouse Liver

TL;DR: The generation and characterization of an interferon inducible Mx-Cre/loxP furin knock-out mouse model is reported and the absence of a severe phenotype raises the possibility of using furin as a local therapeutic target in the treatment of pathologies like cancer and viral infections.
Journal ArticleDOI

Endoproteolytic cleavage of its propeptide is a prerequisite for efficient transport of furin out of the endoplasmic reticulum.

TL;DR: Analysis of autocatalytic cleavage site mutants of furin revealed that efficient propeptide cleavage requires the presence of the complete furin cleavage consensus sequence Arg-X-Lys-Arg.
