Journal ArticleDOI

Adult Neurogenesis Is Sustained by Symmetric Self-Renewal and Differentiation.

TL;DR: It is shown that the vast majority of B1 cells divide symmetrically, and limited rounds of symmetric self-renewal and consuming symmetric differentiation divisions can explain the levels of neurogenesis observed throughout life.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vascular-derived TGF-β increases in the stem cell niche and perturbs neurogenesis during aging and following irradiation in the adult mouse brain

TL;DR: The blockade of TGF‐β signalling in vivo using a neutralizing antibody or the selective inhibitor SB‐505124 significantly improved neurogenesis in aged and irradiated mice, prevented apoptosis and increased the proliferation of neural stem/progenitor cells, suggesting that anti‐TGF‐ β‐based therapy may be used for future interventions to prevent neurogenic collapse following radiotherapy or during aging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Axonal Control of the Adult Neural Stem Cell Niche

TL;DR: It is shown that serotonergic (5HT) axons originating from a small group of neurons in the raphe form an extensive plexus on most of the ventricular walls of the adult brain and directly interact with NSCs to regulate neurogenesis via 5HT2C.
