Journal ArticleDOI

The genome sequence of the plant pathogen Xylella fastidiosa

Andrew J. G. Simpson, +117 more
- 13 Jul 2000 -
TL;DR: The complete genome sequence of X. fastidiosa clone 9a5c is reported, providing direct evidence of phage-mediated horizontal gene transfer and indicating that the molecular basis for bacterial pathogenicity is both conserved and independent of host.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alteration of the Ileal Microbiota of Weanling Piglets by the Growth-Promoting Antibiotic Chlortetracycline

TL;DR: The composition of the microbiota varied considerably between individual pigs, as revealed by shared operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and similarity (SONS) analysis (θYC values), and a significant shift due to CTC in both the lumen and the mucosa was indicated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Is the American Zebu really Bos indicus

TL;DR: By using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) polymorphism, major participation of matrilineages of taurus origin in the American Zebu purebred origin is shown, i.e., 79, 73 and 100% for the Nellore, Gyr and Brahman breeds, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular mechanisms of primary and secondary mucosal immunity using avian infectious bronchitis virus as a model system.

TL;DR: The results provided the first detailed kinetics on the molecular basis underlying the development of primary and secondary mucosal immunity and the key molecular signatures identified may provide new opportunities for improved prophylactic and therapeutic strategies to combat mucosal infections.
Journal ArticleDOI

k -Casein, b -lactoglobulin and growth hormone allele frequencies and genetic distances in Nelore, Gyr, Guzerá, Caracu, Charolais, Canchim and Santa Gertrudis cattle

TL;DR: The genotypes for k-casein, b-lactoglobulin and growth hormone were determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction enzyme digestion in seven breeds of cattle, with a considerable similarity among breeds, with two main groups being discernible.
