Journal ArticleDOI
A trial of intraoperative low-tidal-volume ventilation in abdominal surgery.
Emmanuel Futier,Jean-Michel Constantin,Catherine Paugam-Burtz,Julien Pascal,Mathilde Eurin,Arthur Neuschwander,Emmanuel Marret,Marc Beaussier,Christophe Gutton,Jean-Yves Lefrant,Bernard Allaouchiche,Daniel Verzilli,Marc Leone,Audrey De Jong,Jean-Etienne Bazin,Bruno Pereira,Samir Jaber +16 more
TL;DR: The use of a lung-protective ventilation strategy in intermediate-risk and high-risk patients undergoing major abdominal surgery was associated with improved clinical outcomes and reduced health care utilization.

Obesity in the critically ill: a narrative review.
Miet Schetz,Audrey De Jong,Adam M. Deane,Adam M. Deane,Wilfried Druml,Pleun Hemelaar,Paolo Pelosi,Peter Pickkers,Annika Reintam-Blaser,Jason A. Roberts,Yasser Sakr,Samir Jaber +11 more
TL;DR: In hospitalized and ICU patients and in patients with chronic illnesses, a J-shaped relationship between BMI and mortality has been demonstrated, with overweight and moderate obesity being protective compared with a normal BMI or more severe obesity (the still debated and incompletely understood “obesity paradox”).
Journal ArticleDOI
Early identification of patients at risk for difficult intubation in the intensive care unit: development and validation of the MACOCHA score in a multicenter cohort study.
Audrey De Jong,Nicolas Molinari,Nicolas Terzi,Nicolas Mongardon,Jean-Michel Arnal,Christophe Guitton,Bernard Allaouchiche,Catherine Paugam-Burtz,Jean-Michel Constantin,Jean-Yves Lefrant,Marc Leone,Laurent Papazian,Karim Asehnoune,Nicolas Maziers,Elie Azoulay,Gael Pradel,Boris Jung,Samir Jaber +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed and validated a simplified score for identifying patients with difficult intubation in the ICU and to report related complications using data collected in a prospective multicenter study from 1,000 consecutive intubations from 42 ICUs.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Sodium bicarbonate decreased the primary composite outcome and day 28 mortality in the a-priori defined stratum of patients with acute kidney injury, and metabolic alkalosis, hypernatraemia, and hypocalcaemia were observed more frequently in the bic carbonate group than in the control group, with no life-threatening complications reported.
