Control of Neoclassical Tearing modes by sawtooth control

TL;DR: It is shown in the Joint European Torus that NTMs can be readily destabilized by long-period sawteeth, such as obtained by sawtooth stabilization from ion-cyclotron heating or current drive, which has important implications for burning plasma scenarios, as alpha particles strongly stabilize the saweeth.
Journal ArticleDOI

Survey of disruption causes at JET

TL;DR: In this article, a survey of the causes of all 2309 JET disruptions over the last decade of JET operations was carried out to obtain a complete picture of all possible disruption causes, in order to devise better strategies to prevent or mitigate their impact.
Journal ArticleDOI

MHD Spectroscopy through Detecting Toroidal Alfvén Eigenmodes and Alfvén Wave Cascades

TL;DR: In this paper, a new class of modes, the Alfven cascades, excited by energetic ions, were observed in the JET tokamak, and measurements of these Alfven instabilities were used to solve the inverse problem of identifying the plasma parameters using the dependence of the AAF spectrum on equilibrium parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characteristics and scaling of energy and particle losses during Type I ELMs in JET H-modes

TL;DR: In this article, the relative Type I ELM plasma energy loss (to the pedestal energy) is found to correlate well with the collisionality of the pedestals, showing a weak dependence on the method used to achieve those pedestal plasma parameters: plasma shaping, heating, pellet injection and impurity seeding.
