A first-principles predictive model of the pedestal height and width: development, testing and ITER optimization with the EPED model

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed and tested a model, EPED1.6, for the H-mode pedestal height and width based upon two fundamental and calculable constraints: onset of non-local peeling-ballooning modes at low to intermediate mode number, and onset of nearly local kinetic ballooning mode at high mode number.
Journal ArticleDOI

Partial detachment of high power discharges in ASDEX Upgrade

TL;DR: In this article, the authors obtained 2/3 of the ITER normalized heat flux Psep/R = 15 MW m−1 under partially detached conditions with a peak target heat flux well below 10MW m−2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Screening of resonant magnetic perturbations by flows in tokamaks

TL;DR: In this article, the nonlinear reduced four-field RMHD model was extended to include plasma rotation, neoclassical poloidal viscosity and two fluid diamagnetic effects, and strong screening of central islands was observed limiting RMP penetration to the narrow region near the separatrix.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of pedestal parameters and edge localized mode energy losses in the Joint European Torus and predictions for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor

TL;DR: The experimental characterization of pedestal parameters, edge localized mode (ELM) energy, and particle losses from the main plasma and the corresponding ELM energy fluxes on plasma facing components for a series of dedicated experiments in the Joint European Torus (JET) is presented in this paper.
