Control of Neoclassical Tearing modes by sawtooth control

TL;DR: It is shown in the Joint European Torus that NTMs can be readily destabilized by long-period sawteeth, such as obtained by sawtooth stabilization from ion-cyclotron heating or current drive, which has important implications for burning plasma scenarios, as alpha particles strongly stabilize the saweeth.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new extremum seeking technique and its application to maximize RF heating on FTU

TL;DR: A new global extremum seeking algorithm to optimize the coupling between the emitting Lower Hybrid antennas and the plasma scrape off layer in the radiofrequency (RF) heating problem in tokamak plasmas is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

LHCD and coupling experiments with an ITER-like PAM launcher on the FTU tokamak

TL;DR: In this article, a prototype passive active multijunction (PAM) launcher for lower hybrid (LH) waves conceptually similar to that foreseen for ITER has been successfully tested on FTU at frequency f = 8 GHz.
Journal ArticleDOI

Towards the realization on JET of an integrated H-mode scenario for ITER

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focused on discharges with normalized parameters for plasma density, energy confinement and beta similar to those of the ITER Q(DT) = 10 = 1.
