Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of statin therapy on heart failure events: a collaborative meta-analysis of unpublished data from major randomized trials
David Preiss,Ross T. Campbell,Heather Murray,Ian Ford,Chris J. Packard,Naveed Sattar,Kazem Rahimi,Helen M. Colhoun,David D. Waters,John C. LaRosa,Pierre Amarenco,Terje R. Pedersen,Matti J. Tikkanen,Michael J. Koren,Neil R Poulter,Peter S. Sever,Paul M. Ridker,Jean G. MacFadyen,Scott D. Solomon,Barry R. Davis,Lara M. McMurray +31 more
TL;DR: In primary- and secondary-prevention statin trials, statins modestly reduced the risks of non-fatal HF hospitalization and a composite ofnon-f fatal HF hospitalizations and HF death with no demonstrable difference in risk reduction between those who suffered an MI or not.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of Diuretics in the Prevention of Heart Failure The Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial
Barry R. Davis,Linda B. Piller,Jeffrey A. Cutler,Curt D. Furberg,Kay Dunn,Stanley S. Franklin,David C. Goff,Frans H. H. Leenen,Syed M. Mohiuddin,Vasilios Papademetriou,Michael A. Proschan,Allan Ellsworth,John S. Golden,Pedro J. Colon,Richard S. Crow +14 more
TL;DR: HF risk decreased with chlorthalidone versus amlodipine or lisinopril use during year 1 and diuretics are superior to calcium channel blockers and, at least in the short term, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in preventing HF in hypertensive individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction in Long-term Antihypertensive Medication Requirements: Effects of Weight Reduction by Dietary Intervention in Overweight Persons With Mild Hypertension
Barry R. Davis,M. Donald Blaufox,Albert Oberman,Sylvia Wassertheil-Smoller,Neal Zimbaldi,Jeffrey A. Cutler,Kent Kirchner,Herbert G. Langford +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that weight reduction is an effective long-term therapy for maintaining blood pressure in the normal range when used as monotherapy or in combination with either thiazide diuretics or beta-blockers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age-stratified and blood-pressure-stratified effects of blood-pressure-lowering pharmacotherapy for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and death: an individual participant-level data meta-analysis

TL;DR: Pharmacological blood pressure reduction is effective into old age, with no evidence that relative risk reductions for prevention of major cardiovascular events vary by systolic or diastolic blood pressure levels at randomisation, down to less than 120/70 mm Hg.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glucose variability in a 26-week randomized comparison of mealtime treatment with rapid-acting insulin versus glp-1 agonist in participants with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk
Jeffrey L. Probstfield,Irl B. Hirsch,Barry R. Davis,Andrew J. Ahmann,Richard M. Bergenstal,Matthew P. Gilbert,Connie Kingry,Dorrine Khakpour,Dejian Lai,Sarah L. Pressel,Kelley R. Branch,Matthew C. Riddle,Kevin D. O'Brien +12 more
TL;DR: GLIPULIN reduced GV, weight, and some cardiometabolic risk markers while maintaining equivalent A1C levels versus BBI and might improve clinical outcomes in a larger trial.
