An inexpensive heat-and-pull rig for fiber taper fabrication
Jonathan M. Ward,Danny O'Shea,Brian Shortt,Michael J. Morrissey,Kieran Deasy,S. Nic Chormaic +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a heat-and-pull rig is proposed for fabricating adiabatic tapers with 3-4μm diameter, where a CO2 laser is continuously scanned across a length of fiber that is being pulled synchronously.
Journal ArticleDOI
A heat-and-pull rig for fiber taper fabrication
Jonathan M. Ward,Danny O'Shea,Brian Shortt,Michael J. Morrissey,Kieran Deasy,S. Nic Chormaic +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a heat-and-pull rig was proposed for fabricating adiabatic tapers with 3-4 micron diameter, where a CO2 laser is continuously scanned across a length of fiber that is being pulled synchronously.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical bistability in Er-Yb codoped phosphate glass microspheres at room temperature
TL;DR: In this paper, optical bistability of Er3+-Yb3+ phosphate glass microspheres at 295 K was demonstrated, and a contrast ratio of 2.8 has been obtained for chromatic switching.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Design, development, and performance of X-ray mirror coatings for the ATHENA mission
Desiree Della Monica Ferreira,Sonny Massahi,Finn Erland Christensen,Brian Shortt,Marcos Bavdaz,Maximilien J. Collon,Boris Landgraf,Nis C. Gellert,Jakob Korman,Paschalis Dalampiras,Ida F. Rasmussen,Ifikratis Kamenidis,Michael Krumrey,Swenja Schreiber +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the latest results on coating design optimisation and optics performance for the present Ir/B4C baseline coating and alternative designs and materials, including bilayers and linear graded multilayers.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Silicon pore optics mirror module production and testing
Maximilien J. Collon,Giuseppe Vacanti,Nicolas M. Barrière,Boris Landgraf,Ramses Guenther,Mark Vervest,Roy van der Hoeven,Abdel Chatbi,David Girou,Jessica Sforzini,Marco W. Beijersbergen,Marcos Bavdaz,Eric Wille,Sebastiaan Fransen,Brian Shortt,Jeroen Haneveld,Karin Booysen,Arenda Koelewijn,Maurice Wijnperle,Coen van Baren,Alexander Eigenraam,Peter Müller,Michael Krumrey,Vadim Burwitz,Daniele Spiga,Giovanni Pareschi,Sonny Massahi,Finn Erland Christensen,Desiree Della Monica Ferreira,Giuseppe Valsecchi,Paul Oliver,Ian Chequer,Kevin Ball,Karl-Heinz Zuknik +33 more
TL;DR: Silicon Pore Optics (SPO) has been established as a new type of x-ray optics that enables future X-ray observatories such as Athena as discussed by the authors, which is being developed at cosine with the European Space Agency (ESA) and academic and industrial partners.
