European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) calibration study: rationale, design and population characteristics
Nadia Slimani,Rudolph Kaaks,Pietro Ferrari,Corinne Casagrande,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,G Lotze,Anja Kroke,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,Antonia Trichopoulou,C. Lauria,M Bellegotti,Marga C. Ocké,Petra H.M. Peeters,Dagrun Engeset,Eiliv Lund,Antonio Agudo,Nerea Larrañaga,Iréne Mattisson,Carin Andrén,Ingegerd Johansson,Gwyneth K. Davey,Ailsa A Welch,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,W.A. van Staveren,R. Saracci,Elio Riboli +26 more
TL;DR: The overall results suggest that, after adjustment for age, dietary intakes estimated from calibration samples can reasonably be interpreted as representative of the main cohorts in most of the EPIC centres.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of under- and overreporting of energy intake in the 24-hour diet recalls in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
Pamela Ferrari,Nadia Slimani,Antonio Ciampi,Antonia Trichopoulou,Androniki Naska,C. Lauria,Fabrizio Veglia,H. B. Bueno-De-Mesquita,Marga C. Ocké,Magritt Brustad,Toni Braaten,M. José Tormo,Pilar Amiano,Irene Mattisson,Gerd Johansson,Ailsa A Welch,Gwyneth K. Davey,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Anne C. M. Thiébaut,J. Linseisen,Heiner Boeing,Bertrand Hémon,Elio Riboli +24 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that BMI (or weight) and age are causally related to underreporting seems to be confirmed in the present work and introduces further complexity in the within-group (centre or country) and between-group calibration of dietary questionnaire measurements to deattenuate the diet—disease relationship.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contribution of highly industrially processed foods to the nutrient intakes and patterns of middle-aged populations in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study
Nadia Slimani,G. Deharveng,D. A. T. Southgate,Carine Biessy,V. Chajes,V. Chajes,M. M. E. van Bakel,M. C. Boutron-Ruault,Alison McTaggart,Sara Grioni,J. Jensen,Elio Riboli,Sheila Bingham,Sheila Bingham +41 more
TL;DR: The contribution of highly processed foods to total diet, nutrient intakes and patterns among 27 redefined centres in the 10 countries participating in the European Prospect... as mentioned in this paper, in terms of food consumption, nutrient intake and consumption patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Energy intake and sources of energy intake in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition
M. C. Ocke,N. Larrañaga,Sara Grioni,S. W. van den Berg,Pamela Ferrari,Pamela Ferrari,Simonetta Salvini,Vassiliki Benetou,Jakob Linseisen,Elisabet Wirfält,S. Rinaldi,Mazda Jenab,Jytte Halkjær,Marianne Uhre Jakobsen,M. Niravong,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Rudolf Kaaks,M. Bergmann,E. Moutsiou,Antonia Trichopoulou,C. Lauria,Carlotta Sacerdote,H. B. Bueno-de-Mesquita,Petra H.M. Peeters,Anette Hjartåker,Christine L. Parr,M. J. Tormo,M-J Sanchez,Jonas Manjer,Veronica Hellstrom,Angela A. Mulligan,Elizabeth A Spencer,Elio Riboli,Sheila Bingham,Sheila Bingham,Nadia Slimani +35 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of low-energy reporting indicates that the study of energy Intake is hampered by the problem of underreporting, and variations and similarities in energy intake and sources of energy intake among 10 European countries are highlighted.
