Journal ArticleDOI

Temporin L: antimicrobial, haemolytic and cytotoxic activities, and effects on membrane permeabilization in lipid vesicles.

TL;DR: This work investigates the antibacterial, haemolytic and cytotoxic activities of temporin L (FVQWFSKFLGRIL-NH2), isolated from the skin of the European red frog Rana temporaria, which displayed the highest activity of temporins studied to date, against both human erythrocytes and bacterial and fungal strains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of antimicrobial peptide temporin L with lipopolysaccharide in vitro and in experimental rat models of septic shock caused by gram-negative bacteria.

TL;DR: The activity of temporin L when combined with imipenem and piperacillin in the prevention of lethality in two rat models of septic shock is characterized, measuring bacterial growth in blood and intra-abdominal fluid, endotoxin and tumor necrosis factor alpha concentrations in plasma, and lethality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cerium oxide nanoparticles as potential antibiotic adjuvant. Effects of CeO2 nanoparticles on bacterial outer membrane permeability

TL;DR: CeO2 NPs increases the effectiveness of antimicrobials which activity is compromised by drug resistance mechanisms and the synergistic effect is the result of the interaction of NPs with the bacterial outer membrane.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential sensitivity to resveratrol-induced apoptosis of human chronic myeloid (K562) and acute lymphoblastic (HSB-2) leukemia cells

TL;DR: Investigation of the in vitro effects of resveratrol on apoptotic pathway in human chronic myeloid and acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells indicated that RES commitment to apoptosis in both cell lines is independent from the intracellular content of glutathione, while it is associated with either the enhanced expression of Bax and cytochrome c release.
