Prevalence of Asymptomatic Nasopharyngeal Carriage of Chlamydia pneumoniae in Subjectively Healthy Adults: Assessment by Polymerase Chain Reaction-Enzyme Immunoassay and Culture
Charles Hyman,Patricia M. Roblin,Patricia M. Roblin,Charlotte A. Gaydos,Thomas C. Quinn,Julius Schachter,Julius Schachter,Margaret R. Hammerschlag,Margaret R. Hammerschlag +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that asymptomatic upper airway infection and carriage with C. pneumoniae occur among subjectively healthy persons and it is proposed that such individuals may represent a reservoir for this organism in the community.
Journal ArticleDOI
Protease inhibitor levels in hair strongly predict virologic response to treatment
Monica Gandhi,Niloufar Ameli,Peter Bacchetti,Stephen J. Gange,Kathryn Anastos,Alexandra M. Levine,Alexandra M. Levine,Charles Hyman,Mardge H. Cohen,Mary Young,Yong Huang,Ruth M. Greenblatt +11 more
TL;DR: Protease inhibitor levels in small hair samples were the strongest independent predictor of virologic success in a diverse group of HIV-infected adults and may have particular relevance for the epidemic in resource-poor settings due to the ease of collecting and storing hair.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and Predictors of Metabolic Syndrome Among HIV-Infected and HIV-Uninfected Women in the Women's Interagency HIV Study
Magdalena E. Sobieszczyk,Donald R. Hoover,Kathryn Anastos,Kathleen Mulligan,Tianren Tan,Qiuhu Shi,Wei Gao,Charles Hyman,Mardge H. Cohen,Stephen R. Cole,Michael Plankey,Alexandra M. Levine,Jessica Justman +12 more
TL;DR: MetSynd is more prevalent in HIV-seropositive than HIV-Seronegative women, and this increased prevalence was due to dyslipidemias rather than higher blood pressure, glucose, or waist circumference.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-Perception of Body Fat Changes and HAART Adherence in the Women’s Interagency HIV Study
Michael Plankey,Peter Bacchetti,Chengshi Jin,Barbara Grimes,Charles Hyman,Mardge H. Cohen,Andrea A. Howard,Phyllis C. Tien,Phyllis C. Tien +8 more
TL;DR: Women who perceive central fat gain particularly in the abdomen are at risk for decreased adherence to HAART despite recent evidence to suggest that HIV and specific antiretroviral drugs are more commonly associated with fat loss than fat gain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Innovative approaches to increase deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis rate resulting in a decrease in hospital‐acquired deep vein thrombosis at a tertiary‐care teaching hospital
TL;DR: A layered combination of provider education, provider reminders with decision support, and audit with feedback increased the DVT prophylaxis rate and decreased the rate of hospital-acquired DVTs in the medicine department at a tertiary-care hospital center.
