Batten,Sakina-Dorothée Ayata,Sakina-Dorothée Ayata,Ward Appeltans +43 more
TL;DR: A review on the technologies available to make globally quantitative observations of particles, in general, and plankton, in particular, in the world oceans, and for sizes varying from sub-micron to centimeters is presented in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
Functioning of Coastal River-Dominated Ecosystems and Implications for Oil Spill Response: From Observations to Mechanisms and Models
Adam T. Greer,Alan M. Shiller,Eileen E. Hofmann,Jerry D. Wiggert,Sally J. Warner,Sabrina M. Parra,Robert K. Cowen,Chudong Pan,Jeffrey W. Book,DongJoo Joung,S. L. Dykstra,Jeffrey W. Dinniman,Kevin Martin,Peng Ho,Allison Mojzis,Stephan Howden,Frank J. Hernandez,I. Church,Travis Miles,Su Sponaugle,James N. Moum,Robert Arnone,Gregg A. Jacobs,Oscar Schofield,William M. Graham +40 more
TL;DR: Greer et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the function of coastal river-dominated ecosystems and their implications for oil spill response, from observations to Mechanisms and Models, and found that the majority of the seafloor ecosystems are composed of coastal rivers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prey and predator overlap at the edge of a mesoscale eddy: fine-scale, in-situ distributions to inform our understanding of oceanographic processes
Moritz S. Schmid,Robert K. Cowen,Kelly L. Robinson,Jessica Y. Luo,Christian Briseño-Avena,Christian Briseño-Avena,Su Sponaugle +6 more
TL;DR: Eddies can enhance primary as well as secondary production, creating a diverse meso- and sub-mesoscale seascape at the eddy front which can affect the aggregation of plankton and particles, and eddy-related advection leads to largely passive overlap between predator and prey.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estuarine influence on biogeochemical properties of the Alabama shelf during the fall season
Brian Dzwonkowski,Adam T. Greer,Christian Briseño-Avena,Jeffrey W. Krause,Inia M. Soto,Frank J. Hernandez,Alison L. Deary,Jerry D. Wiggert,DongJoo Joung,Patrick J. Fitzpatrick,S. J. O'Brien,S. L. Dykstra,Yee Lau,Mustafa Kemal Cambazoglu,Grant Lockridge,Stephan Howden,Alan M. Shiller,William M. Graham +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the relative importance of estuarine-shelf interactions on the physical-biological structuring of the shelf environment during fall conditions (i.e., well-mixed, low discharge) was determined.
