Journal ArticleDOI
Regional differences in semen quality in Europe.
Niels Jørgensen,Anne-Grethe Andersen,Florence Eustache,D. Stewart Irvine,J. Suominen,Jørgen Holm Petersen,Anders Nyboe Andersen,Jacques Auger,Elizabeth H.H. Cawood,Antero Horte,Tina Kold Jensen,Pierre Jouannet,Niels Keiding,Matti Vierula,Jorma Toppari,Niels E. Skakkebæk +15 more
TL;DR: Differences in semen quality may indicate different environmental exposures or lifestyle changes in the four populations, however, it remains to be seen whether such changes can account for these differences.

Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of a phytoestrogen food supplement on reproductive health in normal males.
Julie H. Mitchell,Elizabeth H.H. Cawood,David Kinniburgh,Anne Provan,Andrew Collins,D. Stewart Irvine +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the phytoestrogen dose consumed had no effect on semen quality and serum sex steroid and gonadotrophin levels in human males.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol and male reproductive health: a cross-sectional study of 8344 healthy men from Europe and the USA
Tina Kold Jensen,Tina Kold Jensen,Shanna H. Swan,Niels Jørgensen,Jorma Toppari,Bruce Redmon,Margus Punab,Erma Z. Drobnis,Trine B. Haugen,Birute Zilaitiene,Amy E.T. Sparks,D. Stewart Irvine,Christina Wang,Pierre Jouannet,Charlene Brazil,Uwe Paasch,Andrea Salzbrunn,Niels E. Skakkebæk,Anna-Maria Andersson +18 more
TL;DR: This study suggests that moderate alcohol intake is not adversely associated with semen quality in healthy men, whereas it was associated with higher serum testosterone levels which may be due to a changed metabolism of testosterone in the liver.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum inhibin-b in fertile men is strongly correlated with low but not high sperm counts: a coordinated study of 1,797 European and US men
Niels Jørgensen,Fan Liu,Anna-Maria Andersson,Matti Vierula,D. Stewart Irvine,Jacques Auger,Charlene Brazil,Erma Z. Drobnis,Tina Kold Jensen,Pierre Jouannet,James W. Overstreet,J. Bruce Redmon,Amy E.T. Sparks,Jorma Toppari,Christina Wang,Niels E. Skakkebæk,Shanna H. Swan +16 more
TL;DR: Serum inhibin-b levels decrease nonlinearly during the daytime, and are positively correlated with sperm counts, but the predictive power is best when inhibin -b is low.
