Productivity overshadows temperature in determining soil and ecosystem respiration across European forests
Ivan A. Janssens,Harry Lankreijer,Giorgio Matteucci,Andrew S. Kowalski,Nina Buchmann,Daniel Epron,Kim Pilegaard,Werner L. Kutsch,Bernard Longdoz,Thomas Grünwald,Leonardo Montagnani,Sabina Dore,Corinna Rebmann,Eddy Moors,Achim Grelle,Üllar Rannik,K. Morgenstern,S. Oltchev,Robert Clement,Jón Guðmundsson,Stefano Minerbi,Paul Berbigier,A. Ibrom,John Moncrieff,Marc Aubinet,C. Bernhofer,N.O. Jensen,Timo Vesala,André Granier,Ernst Detlef Schulze,Anders Lindroth,A. J. Dolman,Paul G. Jarvis,Reinhart Ceulemans,Riccardo Valentini +34 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented CO2 flux data from 18 forest ecosystems, studied in the European Union funded EUROFLUX project, and observed a significant correlation was observed between annual soil respiration (SR) and gross primary productivity (GPP) among the relatively undisturbed forests.
Journal ArticleDOI
In situ estimation of net CO2 assimilation, photosynthetic electron flow and photorespiration in Turkey oak (Q. cerris L.) leaves: diurnal cycles under different levels of water supply
TL;DR: Combined measurements of gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence under low O2 concentrations allowed the demonstration of a linear relationship between the photochemical efficiency of PSII (fluorescence measurements) and the apparent quantum yield of gross photosynthesis (gas exchange).
Journal ArticleDOI
Integrating genetic and silvicultural strategies to minimize abiotic and biotic constraints in Brazilian eucalypt plantations
José Leonardo de Moraes Gonçalves,Clayton Alcarde Alvares,Antonio Rioyei Higa,Luciana Duque Silva,Acelino C. Alfenas,James Stahl,Silvio Frosini de Barros Ferraz,Walter de Paula Lima,Pedro H. S. Brancalion,Ayeska Hubner,Jean-Pierre Bouillet,Jean-Paul Laclau,Yann Nouvellon,Daniel Epron +13 more
TL;DR: The basic requirements for integrating genetic and silvicultural strategies to minimize abiotic and biotic constraints in eucalypt plantations are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
The carbon balance of a young Beech forest
André Granier,Eric Ceschia,Claire Damesin,Eric Dufrêne,Daniel Epron,Patrick Gross,Stéphanie Lebaube,V. Le Dantec,N. Le Goff,Damien Lemoine,Eric Lucot,Jean-Marc Ottorini,J. Y. Pontailler,Bernard Saugier +13 more
TL;DR: Measurements of CO 2 fluxes over 2 years above and within a young Beech stand in the east of France show a seasonal pattern, the maximum rates occurring in spring and summer, and appeared to be correlated with soil temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Limitation of net CO2 assimilation rate by internal resistances to CO2 transfer in the leaves of two tree species (Fagus sylvatica L. and Castanea sativa Mill.)
TL;DR: Using a combination of gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements, low apparent CO 2 /O 2 specificity factors (1300 mol mol −1 ) were estimated for the leaves of two deciduous tree species (Fagus sylvatica and Castanea sativa) as mentioned in this paper.
