The carbon balance of a young Beech forest
André Granier,Eric Ceschia,Claire Damesin,Eric Dufrêne,Daniel Epron,Patrick Gross,Stéphanie Lebaube,V. Le Dantec,N. Le Goff,Damien Lemoine,Eric Lucot,Jean-Marc Ottorini,J. Y. Pontailler,Bernard Saugier +13 more
TL;DR: Measurements of CO 2 fluxes over 2 years above and within a young Beech stand in the east of France show a seasonal pattern, the maximum rates occurring in spring and summer, and appeared to be correlated with soil temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal dynamics of soil carbon dioxide efflux and simulated rhizosphere respiration in a beech forest
TL;DR: The lowest values of temperature-normalized rhizosphere respiration were observed from January to March, whereas the highest value was observed in early July when fine root growth is thought to be maximal, according to a semi-mechanistic soil organic matter model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interannual and spatial variation in maximum leaf area index of temperate deciduous stands
TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantify both spatial and temporal variations of the maximum leaf area index (LAI) and interpret LAI variation according to stand characteristics and meteorological conditions, using the LI-COR LAI-2000 PCA, throughout 4 years and over 420ha of a temperate forest across a range of stand structure (density, biomass, age, and site fertility).
Journal ArticleDOI
The AMMA-CATCH Gourma observatory site in Mali: Relating climatic variations to changes in vegetation, surface hydrology, fluxes and natural resources

Hanan,Claire Damesin,Claire Delon,Dominique Serça,Corinne Galy-Lacaux,Josiane Seghieri,Sylvia Becerra,H. Dia,Fabrice Gangneron,Pierre Mazzega +39 more
TL;DR: The Gourma site in Mali is one of the three instrumented meso-scale sites deployed in West-Africa as part of the African Monsoon Multi-disciplinary Analysis (AMMA) project as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Precipitation as driver of carbon fluxes in 11 African ecosystems
Lutz Merbold,Jonas Ardö,Almut Arneth,Robert J. Scholes,Y. Nouvellon,A. de Grandcourt,Sally Archibald,Jean-Marc Bonnefond,Nicolas Boulain,N. Brueggemann,C. Bruemmer,B. Cappelaere,Eric Ceschia,Hatim Abdalla M. ElKhidir,B. A. El-Tahir,Ulrike Falk,Jon Lloyd,Laurent Kergoat,V. Le Dantec,Eric Mougin,M. Muchinda,M. M. Mukelabai,David Ramier,Olivier Roupsard,Franck Timouk,Elmar Veenendaal,W. L. Kutsch +26 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report carbon and water fluxes between the land surface and atmosphere in eleven different ecosystems types in Sub-Saharan Africa, as measured using eddy covariance (EC) technology in the first two years of the CarboAfrica network operation.
