The genome of the domesticated apple ( Malus × domestica Borkh.)

Riccardo Velasco, +90 more
- 01 Oct 2010 -
TL;DR: It is shown that a relatively recent (>50 million years ago) genome-wide duplication has resulted in the transition from nine ancestral chromosomes to 17 chromosomes in the Pyreae, which partly support the monophyly of the ancestral paleohexaploidy of eudicots.

Maize pollen mediated gene flow in the Po valley (Italy): Source–recipient distance and effect of flowering time

TL;DR: Gene flow in maize can be monitored by measuring the cross-fertilization rate from a pollen source to a pollen recipient plot, and buffer maize plants that shed non source pollen, rather than fallow land, were the most efficient barrier againstCross-fERTilization.
