TL;DR: It is shown that a relatively recent (>50 million years ago) genome-wide duplication has resulted in the transition from nine ancestral chromosomes to 17 chromosomes in the Pyreae, which partly support the monophyly of the ancestral paleohexaploidy of eudicots.
Journal ArticleDOI
A High Quality Draft Consensus Sequence of the Genome of a Heterozygous Grapevine Variety
Riccardo Velasco,Andrey Zharkikh,Michela Troggio,Dustin Cartwright,Alessandro Cestaro,Dmitry Pruss,Massimo Pindo,Lisa M. Fitzgerald,Silvia Vezzulli,Julia Reid,Giulia Malacarne,Diana Iliev,G. Skolnick,Vittorio Sgaramella,Satish Bhatnagar,Paolo Fontana,Alexander Gutin,Yves Van de Peer,Francesco Salamini,Roberto Viola +56 more
TL;DR: A high quality draft genome sequence of a cultivated clone of V. vinifera Pinot Noir provides candidate genes implicated in traits relevant to grapevine cultivation, such as those influencing wine quality, via secondary metabolites, and those connected with the extreme susceptibility of grape to pathogens.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-quality de novo assembly of the apple genome and methylome dynamics of early fruit development
Nicolas Daccord,Jean-Marc Celton,Gareth Linsmith,Claude Becker,Nathalie Choisne,Elio Schijlen,Henri van de Geest,Luca Bianco,Diego Micheletti,Riccardo Velasco,Erica A. Di Pierro,Jérôme Gouzy,D. Jasper G. Rees,Philippe Guérif,Helene Muranty,Charles-Eric Durel,François Laurens,Yves Lespinasse,Sylvain Gaillard,Sébastien Aubourg,Hadi Quesneville,Detlef Weigel,Eric van de Weg,Michela Troggio,Etienne Bucher +24 more
TL;DR: High-quality de novo assembly of the apple genome is produced and genome-wide DNA methylation data suggest that epigenetic marks may contribute to agronomically relevant aspects, such as apple fruit development.
Journal ArticleDOI
High temperature reduces apple fruit colour via modulation of the anthocyanin regulatory complex
Kui Lin-Wang,Diego Micheletti,J.W. Palmer,Richard K. Volz,Lidia Lozano,Richard V. Espley,Roger P. Hellens,David Chagné,Daryl D. Rowan,Michela Troggio,I. Iglesias,Andrew C. Allan,Andrew C. Allan +12 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that temperature-induced regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis is primarily caused by altered transcript levels of the activating anthocianin regulatory complex.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Ancient Duplication of Apple MYB Transcription Factors Is Responsible for Novel Red Fruit-Flesh Phenotypes
David Chagné,Kui Lin-Wang,Richard V. Espley,Richard K. Volz,Natalie M. How,Simon A. Rouse,Cyril Brendolise,C. M. Carlisle,Satish Kumar,Nihal De Silva,Diego Micheletti,Tony K. McGhie,Ross N. Crowhurst,Roy Storey,Riccardo Velasco,Roger P. Hellens,Susan E. Gardiner,Andrew C. Allan +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, an open-pollinated seedling of cv Sangrado that has green foliage and develops red flesh in the fruit cortex late in maturity was identified as a duplication event that occurred during the evolution of apple within the Maloideae family.
