Journal ArticleDOI
Maternal trait anxiety, emotional distress, and salivary cortisol in pregnancy
TL;DR: Maternal trait anxiety proved related to all stress-related psychological measures and high anxiety predicted low baseline cortisol awakening levels in early pregnancy, indicating that maternal trait anxiety is related to both psychological and biological stress measures during pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Salivary cortisol and prefrontal cortical thickness in middle-aged men: A twin study

Hauger,Christine Fennema-Notestine,Bruce Fischl,Michael D. Grant,Dirk H. Hellhammer,Amy J. Jak,Amy J. Jak,Kristen C. Jacobson,Terry L. Jernigan,Sonia J. Lupien,Michael J. Lyons,Sally P. Mendoza,Michael C. Neale,Larry J. Seidman,Heidi W. Thermenos,Ming T. Tsuang,Ming T. Tsuang,Anders M. Dale,Anders M. Dale,Carol E. Franz +29 more
TL;DR: Phenotypic and genetic associations of cortisol levels with the thickness of prefrontal and anterior cingulate cortex regions, and with hippocampal volume in a sample of 388 middle-aged male twins who were 51-59 years old remained significant after adjusting for general cognitive ability, cardiovascular risk factors, and depression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blunted HPA axis responsiveness to stress in atopic patients is associated with the acuity and severeness of allergic inflammation.
TL;DR: Data from this study support previous data of attenuated HPA axis responsiveness to stress in atopic conditions and further, suggest that H PA axis hyporesponsiveness in atopy may be linked to the severity of the allergic inflammatory process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and Environmental Influences on Cortisol Regulation Across Days and Contexts in Middle-Aged Men
Carol E. Franz,Timothy P. York,Lindon J. Eaves,Sally P. Mendoza,Richard L. Hauger,Dirk H. Hellhammer,Kristen C. Jacobson,Seymour Levine,Sonia J. Lupien,Michael J. Lyons,Elizabeth Prom-Wormley,Hong Xian,William S. Kremen +12 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that genetic factors influence cortisol responses to specific environmental stressors, and that cortisol levels are correlated in identical twins only when they undergo similar experiences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Salivary cortisol release and hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis feedback sensitivity in fibromyalgia is associated with depression but not with pain
TL;DR: The results support the hypotheses that HPA axis related alterations are associated with affective disturbances, for example, depression, in patients with fibromyalgia and their association with psychopathology and pain.
