Journal ArticleDOI
A novel source of arterial valve cells linked to bicuspid aortic valve without raphe in mice.
Lorriane Eley,Ahlam Alqahtani,Donal MacGrogan,Donal MacGrogan,Rachel V. Richardson,Lindsay B. Murphy,Alejandro Salguero-Jimenez,Alejandro Salguero-Jimenez,Marcos Sintes Rodriguez San Pedro,Shindi Tiurma,Lauren McCutcheon,Adam Gilmore,José Luis de la Pompa,José Luis de la Pompa,Bill Chaudhry,Deborah J. Henderson +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown that arterial is distinctly different from atrioventricular valve formation, and a new source of valve interstitial cells is identified, which provides a novel mechanism for causation of bicuspid aortic valves without raphe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuronal SIRT1 Activation as a Novel Mechanism Underlying the Prevention of Alzheimer Disease Amyloid Neuropathology by Calorie Restriction
Weiping Qin,Tianle Yang,Lap Ho,Lap Ho,Zhong Zhao,Jun Wang,Linghong Chen,Wei Zhao,Meenakshisundaram Thiyagarajan,Donal MacGrogan,Joseph T. Rodgers,Pere Puigserver,Junichi Sadoshima,Haiteng Deng,Steven Pedrini,Sam Gandy,Anthony A. Sauve,Giulio Maria Pasinetti,Giulio Maria Pasinetti +18 more
TL;DR: The predicted attenuation ofβ-amyloid content in the brain during CR can be reproduced in mouse neurons in vitro by manipulating cellular SIRT1 expression/activity through mechanisms involving the regulation of the serine/threonine Rho kinase ROCK1.
Journal Article
p53 Is Mutated in a Subset of Advanced-Stage Prostate Cancers
TL;DR: Data indicate that mutated p53 alleles are quite uncommon in early prostate cancers but are found in 20-25% of advanced cancers, suggesting a role for p53 mutation in the progression of at least a subset of prostate cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations in the NOTCH pathway regulator MIB1 cause left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy
Guillermo Luxán,Jesús C. Casanova,Beatriz Martínez-Poveda,Belén Prados,Gaetano D'Amato,Donal MacGrogan,Alvaro Gonzalez-Rajal,David Dobarro,Carlos Torroja,Fernando J. Martinez,Jose L. Izquierdo-Garcia,Leticia Fernández-Friera,María Sabater-Molina,Young-Y Kong,Gonzalo Pizarro,Borja Ibanez,Constancio Medrano,Pablo García-Pavía,Juan R. Gimeno,Lorenzo Monserrat,Luis Jesús Jiménez-Borreguero,José Luis de la Pompa +21 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that MIB1 mutations arrest chamber myocardium development, preventing trabecular maturation and compaction, and implicate NOTCH signaling in LVNC.
Journal ArticleDOI
A ketogenic diet as a potential novel therapeutic intervention in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Zhong Zhao,Dale J. Lange,Andrei Voustianiouk,Donal MacGrogan,Lap Ho,Jason Suh,Nelson Humala,Meenakshisundaram Thiyagarajan,Jun Wang,Giulio Maria Pasinetti +9 more
TL;DR: This is the first study showing that diet, specifically a KD, alters the progression of the clinical and biological manifestations of the G93A SOD1 transgenic mouse model of ALS, and these effects may be due to the ability of ketone bodies to promote ATP synthesis and bypass inhibition of complex I in the mitochondrial respiratory chain.
