Transición para la Vida Adulta: la Transformación del Rol Parental

Abstract: From adolescence there is an experimentation period characterized by the postponement of the definitive entry into adulthood. During that period named as transition to adulthood, parents continue to be responsible for their children. Our aim is to understand meanings attributed to the experience of being parents of young people. We use a qualitative methodology performing twenty interviews. We submit interviews to the Analysis of Contents establishing the following thematic axes: 1) World of young people; 2) Conflicts and negotiations; 3) About the future and 4) Father/Mother of young people. We concluded that there is a present challenge in this moment of the familial life cycle: in a dependence relation, parents need to create conditions to the adult development of children. Key words: transition to adulthood, parental role, familial life cycle.
