Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibition of ICE-like proteases inhibits apoptosis and increases virus production during adenovirus infection.

TL;DR: Inhibition of apoptosis by Z-VAD-FMK significantly enhanced production of infectious adenovirus and attenuated virus release, suggesting that apoptosis may be a method for the host cell to limit virus production and release at the end of the infection cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bcl-2 modulation to activate apoptosis in prostate cancer.

TL;DR: In human prostate cancer tissue examined using a novel tumor explant system designated Tumor Tissue Assessment for Response to Chemotherapy, combination chemotherapy promoted efficient apoptosis and rational targeting of both the Bcl-2 and Mcl-1 mechanisms of apoptosis resistance may be therapeutically advantageous for advanced prostate cancer.
Book ChapterDOI

Therapeutic targeting of death pathways in cancer: mechanisms for activating cell death in cancer cells.

TL;DR: This chapter summarizes the current knowledge of the apoptosis pathways and provides a selective review on the development of drugs that target the apoptotic machinery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autophagy Regulates Keratin 8 Homeostasis in Mammary Epithelial Cells and in Breast Tumors

TL;DR: It is reported that autophagy deficiency is associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and oxidative stress, and with deregulation of p62-mediated keratin homeostasis in mammary cells, allograft tumors, and mammary tissues from genetically engineered mice.
