Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of two interferon-gamma assays and tuberculin skin test for tracing tuberculosis contacts.
Sandra M. Arend,Steven F. T. Thijsen,Eliane M. S. Leyten,John J. M. Bouwman,Willeke P. J. Franken,Ben F. P. J. Koster,Frank Cobelens,Arend-Jan van Houte,Ailko W. J. Bossink +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared TST, QFT-GIT and T-SPOT.TB in bacillus Calmette-Guerin unvaccinated contacts and correlate results with measures of recent exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human T-cell responses to 25 novel antigens encoded by genes of the dormancy regulon of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Eliane M. S. Leyten,May Young Lin,Kees L. M. C. Franken,Annemieke H. Friggen,Corine Prins,Krista E. van Meijgaarden,Martin I. Voskuil,Karin Weldingh,Peter Andersen,Gary K. Schoolnik,Sandra M. Arend,Tom H. M. Ottenhoff,Michèl R. Klein +12 more
TL;DR: Especially strong IFN-gamma responses to latency antigens were observed in latently infected individuals, suggesting that immune responses against these antIGens may contribute to controlling latent M. tuberculosis infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recognition of Stage-Specific Mycobacterial Antigens Differentiates between Acute and Latent Infections with Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Abebech Demissie,Eliane M. S. Leyten,Markos Abebe,Liya Wassie,Abraham Aseffa,Getahun Abate,Helen A. Fletcher,Patrick K. Owiafe,Philip C. Hill,Roger H. Brookes,Graham A. W. Rook,Alimuddin Zumla,Sandra M. Arend,Michèl R. Klein,Tom H. M. Ottenhoff,Peter Andersen,T. Mark Doherty +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that while responsiveness to early secretory antigenic target 6 is a good marker for M. tuberculosis infection, a strong response to the 16-kDa Rv2031c antigen (HspX or α-crystallin) is largely restricted to latently infected individuals, offering the possibility of differential immunodiagnosis of, or therapeutic vaccination against, TB.
Journal ArticleDOI
Procalcitonin reflects bacteremia and bacterial load in urosepsis syndrome: a prospective observational study.
Cees van Nieuwkoop,Tobias Bonten,Jan W van't Wout,Ed J. Kuijper,Geert H. Groeneveld,Martin J Becker,Ted Koster,G Hanke Wattel-Louis,Nathalie M Delfos,Hans C. Ablij,Eliane M. S. Leyten,Jaap T. van Dissel +11 more
TL;DR: PCT accurately predicts the presence of bacteremia and bacterial load in patients with febrile UTI and may be a helpful biomarker to limit use of blood culture resources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Declining Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Incidence in Dutch Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Positive Men Who Have Sex With Men After Unrestricted Access to HCV Therapy
Anne Boerekamps,Guido E.L. van den Berk,F. N. Lauw,Eliane M. S. Leyten,Marjo E. E. van Kasteren,Arne van Eeden,Dirk Posthouwer,Mark A. A. Claassen,Anton S M Dofferhoff,D. W. M. Verhagen,Wouter F W Bierman,Kamilla D. Lettinga,Frank P. Kroon,Corine E Delsing,Paul H. P. Groeneveld,Robert Soetekouw,Edgar J G Peters,Sebastiaan J. Hullegie,Stephanie Popping,David A. M. C. van de Vijver,Charles A. Boucher,Joop E. Arends,Bart J. A. Rijnders +22 more
TL;DR: Unrestricted DAA availability in the Netherlands was followed by a 51% decrease in acute HCV infections among HIV-positive MSM, which contradicts a decrease in risk behavior as an alternative explanation.
