The TRMM Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA): Quasi-Global, Multiyear, Combined-Sensor Precipitation Estimates at Fine Scales
George J. Huffman,Robert F. Adler,David T. Bolvin,Guojun Gu,Guojun Gu,Eric Nelkin,Kenneth P. Bowman,Yang Hong,Yang Hong,Erich Franz Stocker,David B. Wolff +10 more
TL;DR: The TRMM Multi-Satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) as discussed by the authors provides a calibration-based sequential scheme for combining precipitation estimates from multiple satellites, as well as gauge analyses where feasible, at fine scales.
Journal ArticleDOI
The status of the tropical rainfall measuring mission (TRMM) after two years in orbit
Christian D. Kummerow,Joanne Simpson,Otto W. Thiele,William L. Barnes,Alfred T. C. Chang,Erich Franz Stocker,Robert F. Adler,Arthur Y. Hou,Ramesh K. Kakar,F. Wentz,P. Ashcroft,Toshiaki Kozu,Yang Hong,Ken-ichi Okamoto,T. Iguchi,H. Kuroiwa,Eastwood Im,Ziad S. Haddad,George J. Huffman,B. Ferrier,William S. Olson,Edward J. Zipser,Eric A. Smith,Thomas T. Wilheit,Gerald R. North,T. Krishnamurti,Kenji Nakamura +26 more
TL;DR: The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) was launched on 27 November 1997, and data from all the instruments first became available approximately 30 days after the launch as mentioned in this paper, and much progress has been made in the calibration of the sensors, the improvement of the rainfall algorithms, and applications of these results to areas such as data assimilation and model initialization.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission for Science and Society
Gail Skofronick-Jackson,Walter A. Petersen,Wesley Berg,Chris Kidd,Erich Franz Stocker,Dalia Kirschbaum,Ramesh K. Kakar,Scott A. Braun,George J. Huffman,Toshio Iguchi,Pierre Kirstetter,Christian D. Kummerow,Robert Meneghini,Riko Oki,William S. Olson,Yukari N. Takayabu,Kinji Furukawa,Thomas T. Wilheit +17 more
TL;DR: The GPM mission collects essential rain and snow data for scientific studies and societal benefit and aims to provide real-time information about rainfall and snowfall to improve understanding of climate change.
Book ChapterDOI
Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission (IMERG)
George J. Huffman,David T. Bolvin,Dan Braithwaite,Kuolin Hsu,Robert Joyce,Chris Kidd,Chris Kidd,Eric Nelkin,Soroosh Sorooshian,Erich Franz Stocker,Jackson Tan,Jackson Tan,David B. Wolff,Pingping Xie +13 more
TL;DR: The Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission (IMERG) is a US GPM Science Team precipitation product as mentioned in this paper.
Analysis of TRMM 3-Hourly Multi-Satellite Precipitation Estimates Computed in Both Real and Post-Real Time
TL;DR: In this article, a long-term project is described to provide routine combined-sensor estimates of precipitation over the entire globe at relatively fine time and space intervals, and the goal is to produce these globally complete precipitation estimates on a 25-km grid every 3 hours.
