Relative Biological Effectiveness Variation Along Monoenergetic and Modulated Bragg Peaks of a 62-MeV Therapeutic Proton Beam: A Preclinical Assessment

TL;DR: This work presents a comparative investigation of cell killing RBE variations along monoenergetic and modulated proton beams using human normal and radioresistant cells with the aim to investigate the RBE dependence on LET and intrinsic radiosensitvity and highlights the limitation of adoption of a constant RBE for proton therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modified Thomson spectrometer design for high energy, multi-species ion sources

TL;DR: A modification to the standard Thomson parabola spectrometer is discussed, which is designed to measure high energy (tens of MeV/nucleon), broad bandwidth spectra of multi-species ions accelerated by intense laser plasma interactions, to implement a pair of extended, trapezoidal shaped electric plates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic control of laser driven proton beams by exploiting self-generated, ultrashort electromagnetic pulses

TL;DR: In this article, a helical coil structure was used to control the divergence of broadband laser-driven proton beams by winding the supporting wire around the proton beam axis to create helical coils, which provided focussing and energy selection in addition to post-accelerating the transiting protons.
