Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on Blood Pressure: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Incorporating Individual Patient Data
Louise A. Beveridge,Allan D. Struthers,Faisel Khan,Rolf Jorde,Robert Scragg,Helen M. Macdonald,Jessica A. Alvarez,Rebecca S. Boxer,Andrea Dalbeni,Adam D. Gepner,Nicole M. Isbel,Thomas Larsen,Jitender Nagpal,William Petchey,Hans Stricker,Franziska Strobel,Vin Tangpricha,Laura Toxqui,M. Pilar Vaquero,Louise Wamberg,Armin Zittermann,Miles D. Witham +21 more
TL;DR: Vitamin D supplementation is ineffective as an agent for lowering BP and thus should not be used as an antihypertensive agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impaired skin microvascular function in children, adolescents, and young adults with type 1 diabetes.
TL;DR: Early changes in microvascular function are present in young patients with type 1 diabetes, long before the initial clinical presentation, and may be related to complex interactions between structural abnormalities and functional changes in the endothelium, smooth muscle, and nitric oxide activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current concepts in assessment of microvascular endothelial function using laser Doppler imaging and iontophoresis.
TL;DR: It is clear from previous studies that laser Doppler flowmetry/imaging provides an easy, validated, and reproducible method for investigators to assess and monitor endothelial function in patients with a variety of pathologic conditions, but a standardization of protocols would help reduce the apparent controversy seen in the literature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship between peripheral and coronary function using laser Doppler imaging and transthoracic echocardiography
TL;DR: The idea that peripheral measurements of skin blood flow are representative of generalized microvascular function including that of the coronary circulation in normal healthy subjects is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular Effects of Switching From Tobacco Cigarettes to Electronic Cigarettes
Jacob George,Muhammad S. Hussain,Thenmalar Vadiveloo,Sheila Ireland,Pippa Hopkinson,Allan D. Struthers,Peter T. Donnan,Faisel Khan,Chim C. Lang +8 more
TL;DR: TC smokers, particularly females, demonstrate significant improvement in vascular health within 1 month of switching from TC to EC, and may be considered a harms reduction measure.
