TL;DR: Dothideomycetes comprise a highly diverse range of fungi characterized mainly by asci with two wall layers (bitunicate asci) and often with fissitunicate dehiscence, and it is hoped that by illustrating types they provide stimulation and interest so that more work is carried out in this remarkable group of fungi.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparative study of Neogymnomyces virgineus , a new keratinolytic species from dung, and its relationships with the Onygenales
TL;DR: The keratinolytic ability of this species, associated with a Chrysosporium anamorph and a sexual state of appendiculate reticuloperidia and oblate ascospores, allows it to be accomodated in Onygenaceae.
Journal ArticleDOI
A polyphasic contribution to the knowledge of Auxarthron (Onygenaceae)
Sabrina Sarrocco,Stefania Diquattro,Riccardo Baroncelli,Alessio Cimmino,Antonio Evidente,Giovanni Vannacci,Francesco Doveri +6 more
TL;DR: The analysis of ITS nrDNA sequences suggests that an extensive phylogenetic revision of the genus Auxarthron is necessary, and a preliminary evaluation of the antagonistic properties of A. umbrinum and A. concentricum against phytopathogenic fungi has been performed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rodentomyces , a new hypocrealean genus from Italy
TL;DR: A new genus, Rodentomyces, and a new species, R. reticulatus, are introduced to accommodate this fungus which has been isolated from small rodent dung in Italy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bioactive metabolites from new or rare fimicolous fungi with antifungal activity against plant pathogenic fungi
Sabrina Sarrocco,Stefania Diquattro,Fabiana Avolio,Alessio Cimmino,Grazia Puntoni,Francesco Doveri,Antonio Evidente,Giovanni Vannacci +7 more
TL;DR: Three fimicolous isolates of Cleistothelebolus nipigonensis, Neogymnomyces virgineus and Rodentomyces reticulatus, collected from dung of different herbivorous mammal dung, showed strong antifungal activity against fungal pathogens of some important crops.
