Families of Dothideomycetes

Kevin D. Hyde, +72 more
- 10 Dec 2013 -
TL;DR: Dothideomycetes comprise a highly diverse range of fungi characterized mainly by asci with two wall layers (bitunicate asci) and often with fissitunicate dehiscence, and it is hoped that by illustrating types they provide stimulation and interest so that more work is carried out in this remarkable group of fungi.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bartheletia paradoxa is a living fossil on Ginkgo leaf litter with a unique septal structure in the Basidiomycota.

TL;DR: Inoculation experiments and observations in the field suggest that the basidiospores infect the freshly fallen leaves of G. biloba so that the life cycle is completed, and a molecular phylogenetic hypothesis suggests that the fungus belongs to the Agaricomycotina, clustering in an unresolved position at the basal branching of the group.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pseudovirgaria, a fungicolous hyphomycete genus.

TL;DR: An older name introduced by Saccardo based on European material, Rhinotrichum griseum, is shown to resemble P. hyperparasitica, and an epitype is designated from the recent collections.
Journal ArticleDOI

Moserella radicicola gen. et sp. nov., a new hypogeous species of Leotiales on ectomycorrhizas of Picea abies

TL;DR: The fungus is distinctive because of its unique subterranean habitat, in clumps of irregularly interwoven, damaged mycorrhizal root tips of Picea abies, and especially because of the very reduced morphology of its apothecia and the verrucose ascospore wall ornament.

A preliminary checklist of smut fungi of Croatia

TL;DR: In total, 41 smut species belonging to 13 genera found on 41 host plant species have been recorded in Croatia.
