Journal ArticleDOI
Unresponsiveness to Cannabinoids and Reduced Addictive Effects of Opiates in CB1 Receptor Knockout Mice
Catherine Ledent,Olga Valverde,G Cossu,François Petitet,Jean-François Aubert,Françoise Beslot,Georg Andrees Bohme,Assunta Imperato,Thierry Pedrazzini,Bernard P. Roques,Gilbert Vassart,Walter Fratta,Marc Parmentier +12 more
TL;DR: Observations suggest that the CB1 receptor is involved in the motivational properties of opiates and in the development of physical dependence and extend the concept of an interconnected role of CB1 and opiate receptors in the brain areas mediating addictive behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol releases and facilitates the effects of endogenous enkephalins: reduction in morphine withdrawal syndrome without change in rewarding effect
Olga Valverde,Florence Noble,Françoise Beslot,Valérie Daugé,Marie-Claude Fournie-Zaluski,Bernard P. Roques +5 more
TL;DR: Behavioural and biochemical results demonstrate the existence of a direct link between endogenous opioid and cannabinoid systems, however, chronic use of high doses of cannabinoids does not seem to potentiate the psychic dependence to opioids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction of stress-induced analgesia but not of exogenous opioid effects in mice lacking CB1 receptors
TL;DR: The results indicate that CB1 receptors are not involved in the antinociceptive responses to exogenous opioids, but that a physiological interaction between the opioid and cannabinoid systems is necessary to allow the development of opioid‐mediated responses to stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alpha-lactalbumin-enriched diets enhance serotonin release and induce anxiolytic and rewarding effects in the rat.
TL;DR: In conclusion, LAC ingestion induces anxiolytic-like and rewarding effects possibly related to serotonergic activation, and shifting transiently, the commonly consumed CAS-enriched to LAC-en enriched diets may induce beneficial effects on mood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cannabinoid withdrawal is dependent upon PKA activation in the cerebellum.
Eleni T. Tzavara,Emmanuel Valjent,Cedric Firmo,Magdalena Mas,Françoise Beslot,Nicole Defer,Bernard P. Roques,Jacques Hanoune,Rafael Maldonado +8 more
TL;DR: The results directly link the behavioural manifestations of cannabinoid withdrawal with the up‐regulation of the cyclic AMP pathway in the cerebellum, pointing towards common molecular adaptive mechanisms for dependence and withdrawal to most drugs of abuse; and suggest a particular role for the Cerebellum as a major neurobiological substrate for cannabinoid withdrawal.
