Transfusion independence and HMGA2 activation after gene therapy of human β-thalassaemia
Marina Cavazzana-Calvo,Emmanuel Payen,Olivier Negre,Gary P. Wang,Kathleen M. Hehir,Floriane Fusil,Julian D. Down,Maria Denaro,Troy Brady,Karen A. Westerman,Resy Cavallesco,Beatrix Gillet-Legrand,Laure Caccavelli,Laure Caccavelli,Riccardo Sgarra,Leila Maouche-Chretien,Françoise Bernaudin,Robert Girot,Ronald Dorazio,Geert Jan Mulder,Axel Polack,Arthur Bank,Jean Soulier,Jérôme Larghero,Nabil Kabbara,Bruno Dalle,Bernard Gourmel,Gérard Socié,Stany Chrétien,Stany Chrétien,Nathalie Cartier,Patrick Aubourg,Alain Fischer,Alain Fischer,Kenneth Cornetta,Frédéric Galactéros,Yves Beuzard,Eliane Gluckman,Frederick D. Bushman,Salima Hacein-Bey-Abina,Salima Hacein-Bey-Abina,Philippe Leboulch +41 more
TL;DR: It is shown that, 33 months after lentiviral β-globin gene transfer, an adult patient with severe βE/β0-thalassaemia dependent on monthly transfusions since early childhood has become transfusion independent for the past 21 months.
Journal ArticleDOI
A hemodynamic study of pulmonary hypertension in sickle cell disease.
Florence Parent,Dora Bachir,Jocelyn Inamo,François Lionnet,Françoise Driss,Gylna Loko,Anoosha Habibi,Soumiya Bennani,Laurent Savale,Serge Adnot,Bernard Maitre,Azzedine Yaici,Leila Hajji,Dermot S. O'Callaghan,Pierre Clerson,Robert Girot,Frédéric Galactéros,Gérald Simonneau +17 more
TL;DR: In this study of adults with sickle cell disease, the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension as confirmed on right heart catheterization was 6%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of early transcranial Doppler screening and intensive therapy on cerebral vasculopathy outcome in a newborn sickle cell anemia cohort
Françoise Bernaudin,Suzanne Verlhac,Cécile Arnaud,Annie Kamdem,Sylvie Chevret,Isabelle Hau,Lena Coic,Emmanuella Leveillé,Elisabeth Lemarchand,Emmanuelle Lesprit,Isabelle Abadie,Nadia Médejel,Fouad Madhi,Sophie Lemerle,Sandra Biscardi,J. Bardakdjian,Frédéric Galactéros,Martine Torres,Mathieu Kuentz,C Ferry,Gérard Socié,Philippe Reinert,Christophe Delacourt +22 more
TL;DR: Early TCD screening and intensification therapy allowed the reduction of stroke-risk by age 18 from the previously reported 11% to 1.9%, and the 50% cumulative cerebral risk suggests the need for more preventive intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hematological Values of 163 Normal Fetuses between 18 and 30 Weeks of Gestation
François Forestier,Fernand Daffos,Frédéric Galactéros,Josiane Bardakjian,Martine Rainaut,Yves Beuzard +5 more
TL;DR: The results show a progressive increase of red blood cells and hemoglobin and no significant modification of hemostasis was observed over a 12-wk intrauterine gestation, which provides useful reference values for future investigations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial dysfunction in patients with sickle cell disease is related to selective impairment of shear stress-mediated vasodilation.
Laurent Belhassen,Gabriel Pelle,Saı̈d Sediame,Dora Bachir,Claudine Carville,C. Bucherer,C. Lacombe,Frédéric Galactéros,Serge Adnot +8 more
TL;DR: Endothelium dysfunction may prevent the arterial diameter of patients with SCD from adapting to chronic or acute shear stress elevations, which may contribute to the pathophysiology of vaso-occlusive crisis in patients withSCD.
