Journal ArticleDOI

Select nutrients in the ovine uterine lumen. ii. glucose transporters in the uterus and peri-implantation conceptuses

TL;DR: Results of this study indicate differential expression of facilitative and sodium-dependent glucose transporters in ovine uteri and conceptuses for transport and uptake of glucose, and that P4 or P4 and IFNT regulate their expression during the peri-implantation period of pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nitric oxide and energy metabolism in mammals

TL;DR: Modulation of NO‐mediated pathways through dietary supplementation with L‐arginine or its precursor L‐citrulline may provide an effective, practical strategy to prevent and treat metabolic syndrome, including obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia in mammals, including humans.
Journal ArticleDOI

The type 5, acid phosphatase from spleen of humans with hairy cell leukemia. Purification, properties, immunological characterization, and comparison with porcine uteroferrin.

TL;DR: The human Type 5 isozyme belongs to a growing class of structurally related, iron-containing acid phosphatases which includes the iron-transport protein, uteroferrin, which resembles each other closely in electrophoretic mobility, substrate specificity, and response to a variety of activators and inhibitors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insulin-like growth factors in sheep uterine fluids: concentrations and relationship to ovine trophoblast protein-1 production during early pregnancy.

TL;DR: Uterine luminal fluids from Days 10, 12, 14, and 16 cyclic (C) and pregnant (Px) ewes were analyzed for presence of insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I, IGF-II) and other mitogenic factor(s) and non-IGF mitogenic activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Production of two species of interferon by Large White and Meishan pig conceptuses during the peri-attachment period

TL;DR: Antiviral activities present in uterine flushings from pregnant Large White, Large White 'hyperprolific', and prolific Meishan gilts, between Days 8 and 20 of gestation were compared and found to be associated with a mixture of at least two IFNs, one of which was IFN-alpha like, and the other was serologically identified as anIFN-gamma, that is an 'immune IFN', previously found toBe secreted only by T lymphocytes
