Proceedings ArticleDOI
Use of 70 MeV proton beam for medical applications at INFN-LNS: CATANA project
M. G. Sabini,G.A.P. Cirrone,L. Barone Tonghi,Antonio Bartolotta,Maria Brai,Giacomo Cuttone,S. Lo Nigro,F. Marano,G. A. Nicoletti,G. Privitera,L. Raffaele,A. Reibaldi,N. Romeo,A. Rovelli,V. Salamone,G. Teri +15 more
TL;DR: The main goal of CATANA is the study and the application of protontherapy for the treatment of shallow tumors like uveal melanomas and subfoveal macular degenerations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Ion Irradiation on Seedlings Growth Monitored by Ultraweak Delayed Luminescence.
Rosaria Grasso,Tomoko Abe,G.A.P. Cirrone,Giacomo Cuttone,Marisa Gulino,Francesco Musumeci,Francesco Romano,Hiromichi Ryuto,Agata Scordino +8 more
TL;DR: Results demonstrate that measurements of delayed luminescence could be used as a fast and non-invasive technique to check the effects of ion beams on relatively simple biological systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preliminary results coupling “Stochastic Mean Field” and “Boltzmann-Langevin One Body” models with Geant4
Carlo Mancini-Terracciano,M. Asai,Barbara Caccia,G.A.P. Cirrone,Andrea Dotti,Riccardo Faccini,P. Napolitani,Luciano Pandola,D. H. Wright,Maria Colonna +9 more
TL;DR: Two models, SMF and BLOB, developed to simulate heavy ion interactions, show very good results in reproducing the experimental yields of light fragments, up to alpha particles, obtained in the interaction of 12C with a thin carbon target at 62 MeV/u.
Journal ArticleDOI
Therapeutic proton beams: LET, RBE and microdosimetric spectra with gas and silicon detectors
P. Colautti,Anna M. Bianchi,Anna M. Bianchi,A. Selva,D. Bortot,D. Bortot,D. Mazzucconi,D. Mazzucconi,Andrea Pola,Andrea Pola,Stefano Agosteo,Stefano Agosteo,Giada Petringa,G.A.P. Cirrone,V. Conte +14 more
TL;DR: A weighting function was applied to the spectra to see if the microdosimetric detectors are able to monitor RBE data for glioma cells (U87) irradiated at six positions along the same modulated 62-MeV proton beam.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hypoxia Transcriptomic Modifications Induced by Proton Irradiation in U87 Glioblastoma Multiforme Cell Line.
Valentina Bravatà,Valentina Bravatà,Walter Tinganelli,Francesco Paolo Cammarata,Francesco Paolo Cammarata,Luigi Minafra,Luigi Minafra,Marco Calvaruso,Marco Calvaruso,Olga Sokol,Giada Petringa,G.A.P. Cirrone,Emanuele Scifoni,Giusi Irma Forte,Giusi Irma Forte,Giorgio Ivan Russo,Giorgio Ivan Russo +16 more
TL;DR: Highlighting the molecular pathways involved in GBM resistance following hypoxia and ionizing radiation (IR), this work could suggest new molecular targets, allowing the development of targeted drugs to be suggested in association with PT.
