TL;DR: In this article, a collection of short articles written by experts in thermal spray who were asked to present a snapshot of the current state of their specific field, give their views on current challenges faced by the field and provide some guidance as to the R&D required to meet these challenges.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of reinforcing particles on the wear rate of low-pressure cold-sprayed WC-based MMC coatings
TL;DR: In this article, a linear relationship was observed between the wear rate and hardness of various metal matrix composite (MMC) coatings, and a modified wear theory was used to explain the wear rates and material removal from the various WC-based MMC coatings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of type of reinforcing particles on the deposition efficiency and wear resistance of low-pressure cold-sprayed metal matrix composite coatings
TL;DR: In this paper, the average velocity of the carbide particles and their momentum during the cold spray deposition were estimated using a mathematical model, which showed that the average momentum of WC particles was more than two times greater than that of boron carbide (B4C) particles and almost six times higher than TiC particles, which resulted in improvement of the hardness and wear resistance of the MMC coatings.
Book ChapterDOI
Cold-Sprayed Metal Matrix Composite Coatings
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlight the research that has been conducted to improve the deposition efficiency of the ceramic particles and their impact on the cold-sprayed MMC material system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Computational investigation of the effect of microstructure on the scratch resistance of tungsten-carbide nickel composite coatings
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of normal force, WC particle size, and WC particle volume fraction, and their interaction on the worn volume and the material removal mechanisms in WC-Ni metal matrix composite coating materials were investigated.
