Journal ArticleDOI
Preliminary criteria for the classification of Sjögren's syndrome. Results of a prospective concerted action supported by the European Community.
Claudio Vitali,Stefano Bombardieri,Haralampos M. Moutsopoulos,Genesio Balestrieri,Walter Bencivelli,Robert M. Bernstein,Kirsten B. Bjerrum,Susanna Braga,J Coll,Salvatore De Vita,Alexandros A. Drosos,Michael Ehrenfeld,Pierre Y. Hatron,Elaine M Hay,David A. Isenberg,Anne Janin,Joachim R. Kalden,Louis Kater,Yrjö T. Konttinen,Peter J. Maddison,Ravinder N. Skopouli,Josef S. Smolen,M L Snaith,Moshe Tishler,Silvano Todesco,Guido Valesini,Patrick J Venables,Marie J. Wattiaux,Pierre Youinou +40 more
TL;DR: Using the findings of this prospective multicenter European study, general agreement can be reached on the diagnostic procedures to be used for patients with SS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Statins prevent endothelial cell activation induced by antiphospholipid (anti–β2-glycoprotein I) antibodies: Effect on the proadhesive and proinflammatory phenotype
Pier L. Meroni,Elena Raschi,Cinzia Testoni,Angela Tincani,Genesio Balestrieri,Raffaella Molteni,Munther A. Khamashta,Elena Tremoli,Marina Camera +8 more
TL;DR: Endothelial activation mediated by anti-beta2GPI antibody can be inhibited by statins, and this data provide a rationale for using statins as an additional therapeutic tool in APS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apoptotic cell clearance in systemic lupus erythematosus. I. Opsonization by antiphospholipid antibodies.
Angelo A. Manfredi,Patrizia Rovere,Giacomo Galati,Silvia Heltai,Enrica Bozzolo,Laura Soldini,Jean Davoust,Genesio Balestrieri,Angela Tincani,Maria Grazia Sabbadini +9 more
TL;DR: Antiphospholipid antibodies facilitate apoptotic cell clearance by macrophages and trigger TNF alpha release, possibly enhancing the immunogenicity of the autoantigens they contain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anticardiolipin antibody assay: a methodological analysis for a better consensus in routine determinations--a cooperative project of the European Antiphospholipid Forum.
Angela Tincani,F. Allegri,Marielle Sanmarco,M. Cinquini,Marco Taglietti,Genesio Balestrieri,Takao Koike,Kenji Ichikawa,Pier Luigi Meroni,Marie Claire Boffa +9 more
TL;DR: The data show that aCL ELISA standardization is necessary in order to obtain comparable results in different laboratories, and a "consensus" protocol was derived from the aCL methods giving the best performance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anti-C1q antibodies may help in diagnosing a renal flare in lupus nephritis.
Gabriella Moroni,Marten Trendelenburg,Nicoletta Del Papa,Silvana Quaglini,Elena Raschi,Paola Panzeri,Cinzia Testoni,Angela Tincani,Giovanni Banfi,Genesio Balestrieri,J A Schifferli,Pier Luigi Meroni,Claudio Ponticelli +12 more
TL;DR: In patients with biopsy-proven lupus nephritis, anti-C1q Ab titers appear to be strongly related to renal disease activity, and their measurement may be useful for confirming the diagnosis of renal flares of lupu nephitis.
