Journal ArticleDOI
DMPS-arsenic challenge test. II. Modulation of arsenic species, including monomethylarsonous acid (MMAIII), excreted in human urine.
H. Vasken Aposhian,Baoshan Zheng,Mary M. Aposhian,X. Chris Le,Mariano E. Cebrián,William R. Cullen,Robert A. Zakharyan,Mingsheng Ma,Richard C. Dart,Zhai Cheng,Zhai Cheng,Paul Andrewes,Luke Yip,Gerald F. O'Malley,R M Maiorino,Wayne A. Van Voorhies,Sheila M. Healy,Allison Titcomb +17 more
TL;DR: The experimental results support the hypothesis that DMPS competes with endogenous ligands for MMA(III), forming a DMPS-MMA complex that is readily excreted in the urine and points out the need for studying the biochemical toxicology of MMA( III).
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective evaluation of repeated supratherapeutic acetaminophen (paracetamol) ingestion.
TL;DR: It is suggested that the injury caused by acetaminophen repeated supratherapeutic ingestion is apparent at presentation and related to dose magnitude and duration and determination of serum aspartate aminotransferase andacetaminophen concentrations may allow early discharge from the emergency department.
Journal ArticleDOI
Olanzapine overdose mimicking opioid intoxication.
TL;DR: Olanzapine should be added to opioid and alpha(2)-adrenergic agonist intoxication in the differential diagnosis of the patient with depressed mental status and miosis in order to treat central nervous system depression and the previously unreported phenomenon of pupillary constriction after acute overdose.
Journal ArticleDOI
Initial experience with Crotalidae polyvalent immune Fab (ovine) antivenom in the treatment of copperhead snakebite
Eric J. Lavonas,Charles J. Gerardo,Gerald F. O'Malley,Thomas C. Arnold,Sean P. Bush,William Banner,Mark Steffens,William Kerns +7 more
TL;DR: In this select group of patients bitten by copperhead snakes, local tissue effects of envenomation halted promptly after FabAV treatment in most cases, and recurrence of swelling and defibrination syndrome was sometimes problematic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Routine Packing of Simple Cutaneous Abscesses Is Painful and Probably Unnecessary
Gerald F. O'Malley,Paul Dominici,P. Giraldo,Elizabeth Aguilera,Manisha Verma,Claudia Lares,Patricia Burger,Edwin R. Williams +7 more
TL;DR: In a randomized, single-blinded trial, subjects with simple cutaneous abscesses (less than 5 cm largest diameter) underwent incision, drainage, irrigation, and standard abscess preparation in the usual manner as discussed by the authors.
