Journal ArticleDOI

Defective protein kinase C alpha leads to impaired secretion of soluble beta-amyloid precursor protein from Alzheimer's disease fibroblasts.

TL;DR: The present study shows that cultured fibroblasts from sporadic AD patients present reduced cytosolic protein kinase C activity and reduced soluble APP secretion in response to low phorbol ester concentrations, suggesting a defect in the secretion of soluble amyloid β‐protein precursor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Losing protein in the brain: the case of progranulin.

TL;DR: Studies on GRN knockout mice suggest that progranulin-related neurodegenerative diseases may result from lifetime depletion of neurotrophic support together with cumulative damage in association with dysregulated inflammation, thus highlighting possible new molecular targets for GRN-related FTLD treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Non-replication of association between cathepsin D genotype and late onset Alzheimer disease.

TL;DR: An independent association study on CTSD and AD was performed in a sample of 324 Caucasian patients from Germany, Switzerland, and Italy with late onset AD, and 302 non-demented controls, although there was a slight but not significant increase in frequency of the T allele and T carrier status in AD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Eating Behavior in Aging and Dementia: The Need for a Comprehensive Assessment

TL;DR: In this article, the authors have analyzed normal age-related and dementia-related changes and the tools that can be used to assess eating behavior and make recommendations to screening and monitoring eating behavior in aging and dementia, and to adopt these tools in clinical practice.
