Programmed Cell Senescence during Mammalian Embryonic Development
Daniel Muñoz-Espín,Marta Cañamero,Antonio Maraver,Gonzalo Gómez-López,Julio Contreras,Julio Contreras,Silvia Murillo-Cuesta,Alfonso Rodríguez-Baeza,Isabel Varela-Nieto,Jesús Ruberte,Manuel Collado,Manuel Serrano +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that senescence occurs during mammalian embryonic development at multiple locations, including the mesonephros and the endolymphatic sac of the inner ear, and it is proposed that this is the evolutionary origin of damage-inducedsenescence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tissue damage and senescence provide critical signals for cellular reprogramming in vivo
Lluc Mosteiro,Cristina Pantoja,Noelia Alcazar,Rosa M. Marión,Dafni Chondronasiou,Miguel Rovira,Pablo J. Fernandez-Marcos,Maribel Muñoz-Martin,Carmen Blanco-Aparicio,Joaquín Pastor,Gonzalo Gómez-López,Alba de Martino,Maria A. Blasco,María Abad,Manuel Serrano +14 more
TL;DR: It is found that the expression of OSKM in vivo not only triggers reprogramming of some cells but also inflicts extensive damage on many other cells, driving them into a state known as cellular senescence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pten Positively Regulates Brown Adipose Function, Energy Expenditure, and Longevity
Ana Ortega-Molina,Alejo Efeyan,Elena Lopez-Guadamillas,Maribel Muñoz-Martin,Gonzalo Gómez-López,Marta Cañamero,Francisca Mulero,Joaquín Pastor,Sonia Martinez,Eduardo Romanos,M. Mar González-Barroso,Eduardo Rial,Ángela M. Valverde,James R. Bischoff,Manuel Serrano +14 more
TL;DR: A role of Pten is uncovered in promoting energy expenditure, thus decreasing nutrient storage and its associated damage, and a synthetic PI3K inhibitor also increases energy expenditure and hyperactivates the BAT in mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
The dynamic DNA methylomes of double-stranded DNA viruses associated with human cancer
Agustín F. Fernández,Cecilia Rosales,Pilar López-Nieva,Osvaldo Graña,Esteban Ballestar,Santiago Ropero,Jesús Espada,Sonia A. Melo,Amaia Lujambio,Mario F. Fraga,Irene Pino,Biola M. Javierre,Francisco J. Carmona,Francesco Acquadro,Renske D.M. Steenbergen,Peter J.F. Snijders,Chris J.L.M. Meijer,Pascal Pineau,Anne Dejean,Belen Lloveras,Gabriel Capellá,Josep Quer,Maria Buti,Juan Lgnacio Esteban,Helena Allende,Francisco Rodriguez-Frias,Xavier Castellsagué,Janos Minarovits,Jordi Ponce,Daniela Capello,Gianluca Gaidano,Juan C. Cigudosa,Gonzalo Gómez-López,David G. Pisano,Alfonso Valencia,Miguel A. Piris,Francesc Bosch,Ellen Cahir-McFarland,Elliott Kieff,Manel Esteller +39 more
TL;DR: The DNA methylomes presented provide evidence of the dynamic nature of the epigenome in contrast to the genome, and it is observed that the DNA methylome of these viruses evolves from an unmethylated to a highly methylated genome in association with the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mammalian Rap1 controls telomere function and gene expression through binding to telomeric and extratelomeric sites
Paula Martínez,Maria Thanasoula,Ana Rita Carlos,Gonzalo Gómez-López,Agueda M. Tejera,Stefan Schoeftner,Orlando Domínguez,David G. Pisano,Madalena Tarsounas,Maria A. Blasco +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Rap1 deficiency is dispensable for telomeres capping but leads to increased telomere recombination and fragility, and place a telomer protein at the interface between telomerre function and transcriptional regulation.
