This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. Landfill leachate treatment: Review and opportunity

In the present study, three methods (solar photo-Fenton, TiO2 Photocatalysis and solar photocatalyst of TiO2/Fenton process) are investigated for the treatment of petroleum wastewater from Sohar oil refinery. The effectiveness of the TiO 2 concentration, Fenton concentration, pH variance, and residual iron concentration are evaluated under optimum operational conditions. In solar photocatalyst of TiO2/Fenton process, the results showed that remarkable removal of 61% of COD and 34.5% of TOC , at optimum conditions, which are 1g/L TiO2, 0.02 g/L Fe 2+ , and 1g/L H2O2 at pH 4.5. The solar photocatalyst of TiO2/Fenton (Sunlight/TiO2/H2O2/Fe 2+ ) method achieve a 45% and 40% enhancements in the TOC and COD removal, respectively compared with photo-Fenton application and improve performance photocatalyst TiO2 in the normal value of pH (7) for petroleum wastewater therefore no need to adjust pH during this treatment. The solar photo-Fenton process is more efficient than the solar photocatalyst of TiO2 process in acidic conditions pH 7. Although the solar photocatalyst of TiO2/Fenton process is found to be the optimum combination for the treatment petroleum waste water compared to the other systems studied, the process has a number of disadvantages. The results show the clear correlation between the iron concentration in the Fenton’s reagent and the residual iron concentration in the treated effluent. An iron precipitation step following this method may be desirable to re-use the added iron and minimize disposal costs.

Insights into the adsorption of tetracycline onto cellulose nanocrystal structured MgAl/LDH composite

Our study aims to introduce a new quantitative workflow that integrates neural networks (NNs) and multi criteria decision analysis (MCDA). Existing MCDA workflows reveal a number of drawbacks, because of the reliance on human knowledge in the weighting stage. Thus, new workflow presented to form suitability maps at the regional scale for solid waste planning based on NNs. A feed-forward neural network employed in the workflow. A total of 34 criteria were pre-processed to establish the input dataset for NN modelling. The final learned network used to acquire the weights of the criteria. Accuracies of 95.2% and 93.2% achieved for the training dataset and testing dataset, respectively. The workflow was found to be capable of reducing human interference to generate highly reliable maps. The proposed workflow reveals the applicability of NN in generating landfill suitability maps and the feasibility of integrating them with existing MCDA workflows.
