Journal ArticleDOI
Disrupted pulmonary vasculature and decreased vascular endothelial growth factor, Flt-1, and TIE-2 in human infants dying with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Abhay J. Bhatt,Gloria S. Pryhuber,Heidie Huyck,Richard H. Watkins,Leon A. Metlay,William M. Maniscalco +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that infants dying with BPD have abnormal alveolar microvessels and that disordered expression of angiogenic growth factors and their receptors may contribute to these abnormalities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Angiogenic factors and alveolar vasculature: development and alterations by injury in very premature baboons
William M. Maniscalco,Richard H. Watkins,Gloria S. Pryhuber,Abhay J. Bhatt,Colleen Shea,Heidie Huyck +5 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that CLD impairs lung microvascular development and that a possible mechanism is disruption of VEGF and Flt-1 expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and Perinatal Characteristics Predict 1-Year Respiratory Outcomes in Newborns Born at Extremely Low Gestational Age: A Prospective Cohort Study

Panitch,Barbara Schmidt,Ann Tierney,Lynn M. Taussig,Carol J. Blaisdell +115 more
TL;DR: Both bronchopulmonary dysplasia and perinatal clinical data accurately identify ELGANs at risk for persistent and severe respiratory morbidity at 1 year.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single-cell multiomic profiling of human lungs reveals cell-type-specific and age-dynamic control of SARS-CoV2 host genes.
Allen Wang,Joshua Chiou,Olivier Poirion,Justin Buchanan,Michael J Valdez,Jamie M. Verheyden,Xiaomeng Hou,Parul Kudtarkar,Sharvari Narendra,Jacklyn M Newsome,Minzhe Guo,Minzhe Guo,Dina A. Gaulton,Sebastian Preissl,Xin Sun +29 more
TL;DR: These datasets will facilitate interpretation of risk loci for lung diseases and provide insight into regulatory logic underlying genes implicated in COVID-19 in individual lung cell types across age.
Journal ArticleDOI
FOXO3 Deficiency Leads to Increased Susceptibility to Cigarette Smoke-Induced Inflammation, Airspace Enlargement, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Jae-woong Hwang,Saravanan Rajendrasozhan,Hongwei Yao,Sangwoon Chung,Isaac K. Sundar,Heidie Huyck,Gloria S. Pryhuber,Vuokko L. Kinnula,Irfan Rahman +8 more
TL;DR: FoxO3 plays a pivotal role in regulation of lung inflammatory response and antioxidant genes, and deficiency of FoxO3 results in development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/emphysema.
