Journal ArticleDOI
Discovery of a genome of a distant relative of chicken anemia virus reveals a new member of the genus Gyrovirus
Franciscus Antonius Maria Rijsewijk,Helton Fernandes dos Santos,Thais Fumaco Teixeira,Samuel Paulo Cibulski,Ana Paula Muterle Varela,Diogenes Dezen,Ana Cláudia Franco,Paulo Michel Roehe +7 more
TL;DR: A 2.4-kb phi29 polymerase amplification product from serum of a diseased chicken was cloned and sequenced, showing limited similarities to a representative genome of chicken anemia virus, and it is proposed that the newly identified virus is a new species in the genus Gyrovirus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Faecal virome of healthy chickens reveals a large diversity of the eukaryote viral community, including novel circular ssDNA viruses.
Diane Alves de Lima,Samuel Paulo Cibulski,Fabrine Finkler,Thais Fumaco Teixeira,Ana Paula Muterle Varela,Cristine Cerva,Márcia Regina Loiko,Camila Mengue Scheffer,Helton Fernandes dos Santos,Fabiana Quoos Mayer,Paulo Michel Roehe +10 more
TL;DR: The characterization of the faecal virome of healthy chickens described here not only provides a description of the viruses encountered in such niche but should also represent a baseline for future studies comparing viral populations in healthy and diseased chicken flocks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic characterization of novel circular ssDNA viruses from insectivorous bats in Southern Brazil.
Francisco Esmaile de Sales Lima,Samuel Paulo Cibulski,Helton Fernandes dos Santos,Thais Fumaco Teixeira,Ana Paula Muterle Varela,Paulo Michel Roehe,Eric Delwart,Ana Cláudia Franco +7 more
TL;DR: Analysis using inverse PCR and Sanger sequencing led to the characterization of four new putative members of the family Circoviridae with genome size ranging from 1,608 to 1,790 nt, two inversely arranged ORFs, and canonical nonamer sequences atop a stem loop.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chicken anemia virus and avian gyrovirus 2 as contaminants in poultry vaccines
Ana Paula Muterle Varela,Helton Fernandes dos Santos,Samuel Paulo Cibulski,Camila Mengue Scheffer,Candice Schmidt,Francisco Esmaile de Sales Lima,Alessandra D'Avila da Silva,Paulo Augusto Esteves,Ana Cláudia Franco,Paulo Michel Roehe +9 more
TL;DR: The findings provide evidence for the possibility of contamination of poultry vaccines with CAV and AGV2 and they also emphasize the need of searching for these agents in vaccines in order to ensure the absence of such potential contaminants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variants of the recently discovered avian gyrovirus 2 are detected in Southern Brazil and The Netherlands
Helton Fernandes dos Santos,Marcus Braga Knak,Fernanda Luz de Castro,Josiane Slongo,G. A. Ritterbusch,Tânia A.P. Klein,Paulo Augusto Esteves,Alessandra D'Avila da Silva,Iara Maria Trevisol,Erwin A.W. Claassen,Lisette A. H. M. Cornelissen,Maristela Lovato,Ana Cláudia Franco,Paulo Michel Roehe,Frans A.M. Rijsewijk +14 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided thatAGV2 seems fairly distributed in chickens in Southern Brazil and that AGV2 also circulates in the Netherlands, and the occurrence of variants of AGV 2, which may reflect differences in geographical origin and/or in biological properties.
