Journal ArticleDOI
NF-κB functions as a tumour promoter in inflammation-associated cancer
Eli Pikarsky,Rinnat M. Porat,Ilan Stein,Rinat Abramovitch,Sharon Amit,Shafika Kasem,Elena Gutkovich-Pyest,Simcha Urieli-Shoval,Eithan Galun,Yinon Ben-Neriah +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the inflammatory process triggers hepatocyte NF-κB through upregulation of tumour-necrosis factor-α (TNFα) in adjacent endothelial and inflammatory cells, and is therefore a potential target for cancer prevention in chronic inflammatory diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Translation of vascular endothelial growth factor mRNA by internal ribosome entry: implications for translation under hypoxia.
TL;DR: Using bicistronic reporter gene constructs, it is shown that the 1,014-bp 5′UTR of VEGF contains a functional internal ribosome entry site (IRES), thereby securing efficient production of V EGF even under unfavorable stress conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stabilization of vascular endothelial growth factor mRNA by hypoxia and hypoglycemia and coregulation with other ischemia-induced genes.
TL;DR: Two different consequences of tissue ischemia, namely, hypoxia and glucose deprivation, induce VEGF and GLUT-1 expression by similar mechanisms, which function, in turn, to satisfy the tissue needs through expanding its vasculature and improving its glucose utilization, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ectopic lymphoid structures function as microniches for tumor progenitor cells in hepatocellular carcinoma
Shlomi Finkin,Detian Yuan,Ilan Stein,Koji Taniguchi,Achim Weber,Kristian Unger,Jeffrey L. Browning,Nicolas Goossens,Nicolas Goossens,Shigeki Nakagawa,Ganesh Gunasekaran,Myron Schwartz,Masahiro Kobayashi,Hiromitsu Kumada,Michael Berger,Orit Pappo,Klaus Rajewsky,Yujin Hoshida,Michael Karin,Mathias Heikenwalder,Mathias Heikenwalder,Yinon Ben-Neriah,Eli Pikarsky +22 more
TL;DR: It is found that hepatic ELSs indicated poor prognosis for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and they constituted immunopathological microniches wherein malignant hepatocyte progenitor cells appeared and thrived in a complex cellular and cytokine milieu until gaining self-sufficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
UVB-Induced Tumor Heterogeneity Diminishes Immune Response in Melanoma
Yochai Wolf,Osnat Bartok,Sushant Patkar,Gitit Bar Eli,Sapir Cohen,Kevin Litchfield,Ronen Levy,Alejandro Jiménez-Sánchez,Sophie Trabish,Joo Sang Lee,Hiren Karathia,Eilon Barnea,Chi-Ping Day,Einat Cinnamon,Ilan Stein,Adam Solomon,Lital Bitton,Eva Pérez-Guijarro,Tania Dubovik,Shai S. Shen-Orr,Martin L. Miller,Glenn Merlino,Yishai Levin,Eli Pikarsky,Lea Eisenbach,Arie Admon,Charles Swanton,Eytan Ruppin,Yardena Samuels +28 more
TL;DR: The analysis of melanoma patient tumor data recapitulates the results in terms of overall survival and response to immune checkpoint therapy and highlights the importance of clonal mutations in robust immune surveillance and the need to quantify patient ITH to determine the response to checkpoint blockade.
