Journal ArticleDOI
Electric-Field-Driven Direct Desulfurization
Bogdana Borca,Tomasz Michnowicz,Rémi Pétuya,Marcel Pristl,Verena Schendel,Ivan Pentegov,Ulrike Kraft,Hagen Klauk,Peter Wahl,Peter Wahl,Rico Gutzler,Andrés Arnau,Uta Schlickum,Klaus Kern,Klaus Kern +14 more
TL;DR: This work tracks the chemical pathway of an irreversible direct desulfurization reaction of tetracenothiophene adsorbed on the Cu(111) closed-packed surface at the submolecular level and reveals the two elementary steps of this reaction mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Remotely Controlled Isomer Selective Molecular Switching
Verena Schendel,Bogdana Borca,Ivan Pentegov,Tomasz Michnowicz,Ulrike Kraft,Hagen Klauk,Peter Wahl,Peter Wahl,Uta Schlickum,Klaus Kern,Klaus Kern +10 more
TL;DR: The switching process is shown to be long-ranged, fully reversible, and isomer selective, discriminating between cis and trans diastereomers, enabling maximum control.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bipolar conductance switching of single anthradithiophene molecules
Bogdana Borca,Verena Schendel,Rémi Pétuya,Ivan Pentegov,Tomasz Michnowicz,Ulrike Kraft,Hagen Klauk,Andrés Arnau,Peter Wahl,Peter Wahl,Uta Schlickum,Klaus Kern,Klaus Kern +12 more
TL;DR: Voltage-controlled current traces show a hysteresis characteristic of a bipolar switching behavior of the pentacene analogue anthradithiophene, supported by first-principles calculations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strong paramagnon scattering in single atom Pd contacts
Verena Schendel,Cyrille Barreteau,Cyrille Barreteau,Mads Brandbyge,Bogdana Borca,Ivan Pentegov,Uta Schlickum,Markus Ternes,Philippe Wahl,Philippe Wahl,Klaus Kern,Klaus Kern +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare the total and differential conductance of monoatomic contacts consisting of single Pd and cobalt (Co) atoms between Pd electrodes, and show that the Pd contacts show a reduction with increasing bias, which gives rise to a peculiar $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$-shaped spectrum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Controlling Single Molecule Conductance by a Locally Induced Chemical Reaction on Individual Thiophene Units.
Tomasz Michnowicz,Bogdana Borca,Bogdana Borca,Rémi Pétuya,Rémi Pétuya,Verena Schendel,Marcel Pristl,Ivan Pentegov,Ulrike Kraft,Ulrike Kraft,Hagen Klauk,Peter Wahl,Peter Wahl,Pingo Mutombo,Pavel Jelínek,Andrés Arnau,Andrés Arnau,Uta Schlickum,Uta Schlickum,Klaus Kern,Klaus Kern +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, an in situ-induced direct desulfurization reaction of the thiophene moiety strongly improves the molecular anchoring by forming covalent bonds between molecular carbon and copper surface atoms.
