Characterization of enhanced Dα high-confinement modes in Alcator C-Mod
Martin Greenwald,R.L. Boivin,P.T. Bonoli,R. Budny,C.L. Fiore,J.A. Goetz,Robert Granetz,Amanda Hubbard,Ian H. Hutchinson,James Irby,Brian LaBombard,Yijun Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,Earl Marmar,A. Mazurenko,D. A. Mossessian,T. Sunn Pedersen,C. S. Pitcher,Miklos Porkolab,John Rice,William L. Rowan,J.A. Snipes,G. Schilling,Yuichi Takase,J.L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,J. L. Weaver,B. Welch,S.J. Wukitch +28 more
TL;DR: In this article, the edge gradients in EDA seem to be relaxed by a continuous process rather than an intermittent one as is the case for standard ELMy discharges and thus do not present the first wall with large periodic heat loads.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental investigation of transport phenomena in the scrape-off layer and divertor
Brian LaBombard,J.A. Goetz,Ian H. Hutchinson,D. Jablonski,Jay Kesner,C. Kurz,Bruce Lipschultz,G.M. McCracken,A. Niemczewski,J. L. Terry,A. J. Allen,R.L. Boivin,F. Bombarda,P.T. Bonoli,C. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the divertor and scrape-off layer of Alcator C-Mod for a wide range of plasma conditions, including low recycling, high-recycling, and detached regimes, and reversed divertor flows.
Journal ArticleDOI
Double transport barrier plasmas in Alcator C-Mod
John Rice,P.T. Bonoli,E. S. Marmar,S.J. Wukitch,R. L. Boivin,C.L. Fiore,Robert Granetz,Martin Greenwald,Amanda Hubbard,J. W. Hughes,Ian H. Hutchinson,J. Irby,Yijun Lin,D. A. Mossessian,Miklos Porkolab,G. Schilling,J.A. Snipes,S.M. Wolfe +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, double transport barrier plasmas comprised of an edge enhanced D? (EDA) H-mode pedestal and an internal transport barrier (ITB) have been observed in Alcator C-Mod.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transport-driven scrape-off layer flows and the x-point dependence of the L-H power threshold in Alcator C-Mod
Brian LaBombard,John Rice,Amanda Hubbard,Jerry Hughes,Martin Greenwald,Robert Granetz,J. Irby,Yu-Ming Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,Earl Marmar,Kenneth D. Marr,D. A. Mossessian,Ronald R. Parker,William L. Rowan,N. Smick,J.A. Snipes,J.L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,S.J. Wukitch +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that a factor of ∼2 higher power thresholds for low-to high-confinement mode transitions with unfavorable x-point topologies in Alcator C-Mod are linked to flow boundary conditions imposed by the scrape-off layer (SOL).
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental and Theoretical Study of Quasicoherent Fluctuations in Enhanced D α Plasmas in the Alcator C-Mod Tokamak
TL;DR: It is proposed here that the QC mode is a form of resistive ballooning mode known as the resistive X-point mode, in reasonable agreement with predictions by the BOUT (boundary-plasma turbulence) code.
